Vasovagal
Has anyone ever heard of Vasovagal? I have been diagnosed with this after a few fainting episodes. Apparently I have low blood pressure. I've been put on Flornif and wondering if anyone else has taken this. I'll a little nervous taking medications.

Blood pressure is made up of three things, the amount of blood in your system (fluid), the heart (pump), and the arteries and veins (container). Blood pressure is the measure of the amount of force against the arteries and veins as the heart beets.
A vasovagal response means that your arteries and veins are expanding. (the container gets bigger and has more room for fluid). Your body only has a fixed amount of blood so as your veins expand there is essentially less blood in proportion to the size of the container. The heart pumps the blood at the same rate, but since the container is larger, the pressure goes down. It looks like Flornif helps the body retain water to help bolster the amount of fluid in the container so pressure does not get to low. When pressure gets low, gravity works against you because it takes more pressure to pump blood to your brain than it does to pump down into your legs. I have never taken Flornif nor have I known anyone who has taken it so I can't comment on that. |

My brother and I both have been told that we have this condition. My brother's seems to be more in response to the sight of blood only. Mine is in response to almost any stress.
A number of things have helped me. Doing yoga and learning to control my body better, drinking caffene, and going through pregnancy. Pregancy and age seemed to raise my blood pressure so that the drop isn't as bad. Also I get migranes in response to the drops in my blood pressure. Imitrex of Maxalt are the medications that I take to remedy that problem. I have not taken Florniff but from what hrdwareguy says, I would probably take it to help this problem. You can always go off or reduce the dosage (with your Dr's direction) if you find that the blood pressure goes up too much or you retain too much water. It doesn't sounds too bad. I have learned to stand up in increments if I've been sitting or lying down for too long. Drinking plenty of water so that I don't end up getting dehydrated and making my blood pressure even lower, helps a lot. It's amazing how little we drink sometimes compared to what we actually need.
