Languedoc Roussillon Region of France - Vacation photos
Here are some photos I took while visiting the Languedoc region in the South of France last week. (A couple from Paris too)
Looking across the castle moat at the centre of Carcassone - one of Europe's largest and best preserved fortress cities: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/142_4245.jpg Pont du Gard. Build around 19 BC by the Romans, this aqueduct stands at 50m tall and the third level is 275m long. An amazing engineering feet: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/143_4306.jpg The mountainside town of Rochebrun. One of the best places in the world to have your car breakdown: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/142_4268.jpg Farther up the moutains is scenic Olargues: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/143_4351.jpg The private village/resort of Bardou, only accessible by hiking or unmaintained road. It dates back to the 1400's and is not shown on most maps. My late Sister-in-law worked there for a year, so visiting it was a bit of a pilgrimage for her family. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/143_4373.jpg As a contrast to the rustic south, here is the grand salle at the Paris Opera House: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/144_4421.jpg What trip to France would be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower :) http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/141_4193.jpg |
very nice -- the countryside is so beautiful...

Looks like a great trip! The perfect blend of rural and urban.
It looks beautiful there. What's the weather like? |
Hey Fresnelly!
Great to see you are back in the fold... I have to say I am totally jealous. I haven't been to Paris since 1984, the Louvre's Pyramid was still being built when I was there. I love rural France and hope to actually have time to explore it some more in the future, I will have to get the location of Bardou from you when I do. |
Looks like a great trip. I haven't had the chance to explore rural France (only been to Paris) but it looks like I should, and I definitely plan on doing so. Now I know who to ask for tips.
:) Beautiful pics. |
Oh you went to the Paris Opera! *dies of jealousy* You are a great photographer, fresnelly. All those different lighting conditions and perfect results every time... *jealous again* The pic of Olargues is particularly awesome.
