Puffed eyelid
This morning when I woke up my left eyelid was all puffed up and swollen. I looked like an alien in my left eye.
At first I thought I must be dreaming. I even went as far as pinching myself to see if I really was or not! Unfortunately I wasnt. After i showered it went down a bit, then about an hour after that it was pretty much back to normal. I wanted to call in sick to work today, in the morning it was so bad that I myself didnt even want to look in the mirror. My question is what would of caused this? I think I might be getting sick, because i've been working 7 days a week and not getting a good healthy 3meal diet. I did wear one of those eyecovers last night, but I sometimes will wear one from time to time if it is bright in my room and I cannot sleep. Thanks |
Might be allergic to the eye cover, might have hit it in your sleep, might have been lots of other things. If it's gone now, I'd say don't worry about it.
If it comes back, you know what you must do. Amputate. |
I had something similar on a lower eyelid a few years ago - it was a blocked tear duct, which is more common in little kids but not unheard of in adults. The doctor gave me an anti-inflamatory and told me to put a warm, wet compress on it ever few hours. It went away in a couple of days.
Good luck! |
hmm, its weird I for some reason also want to blame the eye cover, although as I mentioned I've used it many times before.
The only thing new is that I washed it in a different machine than I normally do. I don't believe that would have anything to do w/ it though since all of my other clothes were washed in the same machine @ the time. I originally thought this might of been a more common occurance for some people, apparantly I just had some weird thing happen to me. i wonder if I might have bumped it in the night. ??? |
I woke up with this problem on monday morning.. first I thought I might have some kind of infection, one I often get from wearing contacts, however I havent worn them in a few months....
Since during the workday I'm in and out of the ER, I stopped in yesterday and had a doc ( a very hot one at that) take a look at my eye. She says it was allergies, and asked if I had a headache too,(which I did). She said something like Alavert or some other type of Allergy medicine would be fine. I took some.. it did'nt quite go away.. but she said it was no big deal... |
I used to get really puffy eyelids at boarding school during the spring when the pollen was popping out and turning everything yellow. I didn't have any other allergy symptoms- just waking up in the morning with really, really swolen eyelids.
Take an antihistimine (otc) and see if that works- if not, go to a doctor if it doesn't go away or if the problem persists for a week or two. |
hmm, I always will say I dont have alergies, but dust and smoke does affect my nose.
I guess It could be allergies, I am one of those hate going to the dr. people, so I think ill wait and if it happens again Ill then go. but thank you all for the replies! |
Maybe it is from your contact lenses ( if you wear any ). Have you heard the big fuss about the bacteria that has been linked back to a certain brand of contact lenses?

No, no contacts here. Plus luckily I live in Canada where we luckily didnt carry the exact type of solution.
Im thinking I bumped it in the middle of the night, or was just extremely worn out that day from lack of sleep the night before. |
It could be a sty. I used to get them all of the time. I'm not 100% sure what causes them, but it may be from an infected eyelash follicle? Anyone else ever had one? Anyway, they are pretty harmless.

I get puffed up eyes easily from my allergies. Daisies will nearly swell my eyes shut at times. It's miserable. Allergies can develop at any age and to a detergent that you've been using for a long time even. Benedril, Claritan, or Alavert all work well to help with allergic reactions. |
