Success and Fulfillment

Are you successful or do you feel fulfilled? I've recently realized that I feel fairly successfull and fulfilled. I am satisfied with what we've accomplished as a couple and where I am in life.

Success: The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.

Fulfilled: To bring into actuality; effect: fulfilled their promises: To carry out (an order, for example): To measure up to; satisfy: To bring to an end; complete.

Do you think there's a difference for you between success and fulfillment? The dictionary definitions seem to be less loaded the the meanings of the words that I've been used to. I've thought of Success as being able to do well in work or income. Fulfillment seems to be more of a personal kind of success that is less measure my money. Which do you desire most?

Being successful to me, is being good at 'what I do' ie work related, and knowing not just the praise from others which is important, but also knowing in myself that I'm doing a good job. Financial security is a big part of this and strays into fulfillment too. I don't strive to be loaded, but certainly comfortable and not stressed about paying the bills.

Fulfilled ..... this changes as my aspirations change. At the moment, I don't feel fulfilled at all. There's too many issues in my life that are up in the air that I feel very unsettled. Settled ......... and the feeling of waking up in the morning and being able to say 'What a beautiful day. I'm happy to be here'. When I reach this point, I'll hopefully be able to say, I feel fulfilled.

Most people think that success will bring fulfillment, but it's just not true. Most successful people succeed because they're driven by an internal emptiness, a need to prove themselves worthy or "good enough". And that sort of hole just can't be filled with material success. You end up like Charles Foster Cane saying "Rosebud" as you die.

Success is a feeling of the moment - like crossing the finish line.

Fulfilment is looking over my shoulder and seeing how far I have come.
