Switzerland vacation photos
Last week, I vacationed in Switzerland. I stayed in Davos for 4 days and Zürich for 1 day. What follows are a few thumbnails from the 492 photos I took. Requests for full-size (1792x1200 or 1200x1792) photos accepted. A few disclaimers are in order:
1) I am a complete amateur when it comes to photography. But I love to record parts of special trips. 2) My digital camera, a Kodak DC290, is 6 years old and is a first-gen digicam. As such, it has a very slow shutter and other design flaws, so a few photos are of somewhat poor quality. 3) Most of the photos were taken from within a moving train. As such, there will be some reflections and the like. That said, what follows are primarily photos of various panoramas that I saw while riding the Bernina Express Rhätische Bahn train from Davosplatz, Switzerland, to Tirano, Italy and back. We passed through several major stops along the way, such as Filisur, Pontresina, Poschiavo, and Samedan.

Much better forum for travel photos, so moved here.
But to the topic... I've been once there and the scenery is unbelieveable. I was travelling by car so the scenery was rather different (didn't drive) but still amazing. We also visited Austria at the same go. Too bad this happened over 10 years ago so I don't have any photos anymore. And the family album is 6000 miles away... Did you do any ski'ing? I need to go hiking there someday...

Yes, I skied on Jakobshorn and Pischa for 2 days. Often the snow was quite powdery/dusty which made for great skiing. In the untouched powder fields I went down, however, usually the top had melted and refrozen already so skiing in that was more difficult. Also.. as opposed to Colorado, the mountains of the Alps tend to be wide open spaces. I found that difficult to deal with due to the lack of sufficient visual cues to differentiate between runs. So I occasionally ended up on moguls when I didn't want to be skiing moguls.
Here's some photos from skiing:

Those are some breathtaking views! That building with the cylindrical balconies looks pretty nifty, too. Are there any pictures of you from the trip? If so, you should post them in Portraits... I don't think I'm the only one who would love to see you!

Yeah, I thought the cylindrical balconies were interesting. That was a building about 5 minutes' walk from the RhB station in Tirano.
I posted portraits from this particular trip here. There's another, somewhat older, one of me earlier in a similar thread here.

This is a part of the world I've only flown over... I hope to one day add it to the list of places I have been...
Having grown up in a relatively flat area I always get excited when I see mountains.

Hey, great pics! I was just recently in Switzerland myself, so thought I might add some of my own pics of the Engiadine Valley, specifically, Sent and Scuol.
Afterthought: the pics are too big for just leaving in the post, so best to click links and let your browser do the resizing for whatever size screen you have... sorry. The view from my bedroom window. A smaller off-shoot valley to the main Engiadine Valley. Sledding down the mountain! ...with dogs! Snow on the way. Hmm... dare I say... wallpaper worthy? Crazy Swiss Guy drinking 2 liters of beer from a Stifl (boot)! Sorry for that last one, but it had to make it in. Switzerland is not just beautiful, but also a great place for drinking beer and having a lot of fun. The drinking age is sixteen, though, so sometimes at clubs I felt a little out of place, especially at the hip-hop concert. Anyway, that's all for now... I've got more if people want to see them.

Great shots, Robbdn!
I went through Switzerland by bus from Germany to Italy and back last May. I was going to post some, but your photos make mine look sick. Bus windows pictures aren't very good. Lots of glare and reflections on the glass. Also, it was rainy that day. Next time, I'll ride through Switzerland on a motorcycle! |

Absolutely wonderful photos!
I LOVE the mountain/skiing shots, but was amazed by the building with the round balconies. (like so many before me) Love RobbDn's pics, as well...esp the "Snow on the Way" shot.
