Dizziness
I occationally get these dizzy spells that last from 10-40mins. Recently they started to vary in intensity but the bad ones, lets say 8-10s I literally can't walk without falling over. Normally in the past years they only occured 2-4 times a year but lately they have increased. I had a really bad one, a 10, about a month ago and on monday and today I had some minor ones like 2 or 3s that lasted 10ish minutes. Nausea accompanies the dizziness, although I'm not sure if that's from the dizziness or with it. In other words if it's part of the problem or because of the problem.
The bad ones are very dehibilating and I fear what might happen if I'm driving when one hits. I have done some research but nothing really fits. There are some migraines that can cause dizziness, but that's all I have, is dizziness. No other symptoms that normally go along with migraines like seeing spots, or a headache. Nor am I doing anything that seems to trigger them. So far they have all been pretty random. One time was in class, another I was sitting at the dinner table, another in bed, and another while at the computer. They come on very fast and usually decrease slowly. I'll just be sitting there and then suddenly the world is spinning. Keeping my head very very still is the only thing that helps. If I move even an inch it makes it much worse. Although even if I'm perfectly still I still feel dizzy/spinning, it's just is worse if I move. Any ideas? |

Conceivably you could have a migraine with dizziness as the _only_ symptom. But dizziness can be caused by other factors. Could you possibly have benign positional vertigo?
You didn't ask, but it's time you saw a doctor. Your condition is potentially dangerous; even if the cause is potentially benign, you could be injured during a spell. And also recurrent dizziness is also a possible symptom of heart problems, low blood pressure, and other conditions that are better off diagnosed (or ruled out) as soon as possible. GO TO THE DOCTOR. NOW.
Dizziness can be a sign of something far more serious, especially when it has no apparent cause. The worst: a brain tumor. Dizzy spells were the first sign of my brother's tumor; they got progressively worse until he had a grand mal seizure. I'm not trying to scare you (well, perhaps just a little), I'm just telling you one of many, many possibilities. Another option: a problem in your inner ear, like Rodney suggested with the vertigo. The fact is that there are a lot of things that can cause dizzy spells (my mother has temporal lobe epilepsy, dizzy spells are a part of that one too) and some of them are VERY SERIOUS. You should be seen by a physician as soon as possible.

I agree, go see your Doctor.
My wife gets dizzy spells as well, and the Doc traced it back to all the ear infections she had when she was little. Often she has to lie down and wait for it to pass, the major attacks come and go and she may got months without an attack.. |

I must echo the above. Go to to a Dr.
It could be any of the things already mentioned. Another thing that came to mind was an inner ear infection. I've had them where they weren't really painful but the slightest movement of my head at times would make my world spin. It wasn't ALL the time either. Also I have low blood pressure and Mine tends to drop if I feel stressed. This causes me to have dizzy spells more often. For me - this issue is a benign one that is helped with meditation, and exercise. There are also the more serious options but not matter what it could be it would be best for your Dr to know and to be able to advise you accordingly.

please, go to the doctor, this could be anything from a nuritional deficiency to a brain tumor.... it sound pretty serious to me and i would be in to the doctor's as soon as possible...
you don't fool around about getting to the doctor when you have dizzy spells, those are Very serious and should be treated as such... also... dizziness can lead to feelings of falling and loss of visison and i wouldn't want that to happen to you while you're driving your car... you could kill yourself and someone else if you got into a car accident when this was happening... please please go see a doctor and let us know how you are feeling.... sweetpea

Doctor, right now.
Not Emergency Room (unless you are also blacking out / headachey), but definitely a walk-in clinic or something. Don't leave until they run some serious tests. Your body is trying to tell you something, and you need a Doc to translate the language. Thoughts and prayers, big guy; mine are with you.

I agree with the others to have a medical consult, some blood work and some diagnostic testing. Unfortunately, you really have to push and be your advocate, I cannot stress that enough. These symptoms are not normal. A friend of mine recently was having bouts of dizziness and they found a tumor the size of a lemon growing on her thyroid, thankfully it was benign. She's a thin individual so this sized mass was quite a shock to find growing in her throat area, apparently it was restricting blood flow to her brain by compressing the carotid artery, thus making her dizzy. Best of luck with it all

If anyone hasn't mentioned this yet, it's time to go to the Doctor.
Blood tests and maybe a CT of your head. It could be any of thousands of things, but it's best to get it checked out to try to figure out WHAT so we can fix it.

Me too - Please come back and post here to let us know. I hope everything is ok and it's only minor. Good luck.

Back. Looks like I'll be OK. We're pretty sure it's an inner ear problem, still not sure what causes it, because there's so many things that can. It seems it can be different things. Like the pressure dropping, or alcohol, which explains why I've never enjoyed getting drunk that much, makes me dizzy. So it seems to be a combination of things that trigger the bad ones, which would explain why they are infrequent, and random. So don't worry about me, I'll be fine.
Thank you all for your concern, I'm touched. |
