Lawn Mower Problems

I went away for a while and forgot to put my lawn mower in the garage and it rained for several days straight. Is there anything I can do to get it running again?

I assume you've tried starting it? Just because it got wet doesn't necessarily mean it won't run.

Rain by itself shouldn't cause a mower to not start.

Did rain get in the gas? Is the spark plug wire shorting out?

I have tried to start it, no start, drained the gas put fresh gas, no start. Can you change the spark plug wire?

No, mower plug wires don't become an issue unless they're ancient.

First thing to do if your mower has been in the rain is _NOT TRY TO START IT_. Open the gas tank and use a flashlight while sloshing to look for water. If you see "bubbles" on the bottom you'll need to dump it. If you have tried to start a few times, pull the plug. If it's wet shut off the gas and pull start a few times to clear it. Then replace the plug.

In your case, water is probably in the carb. If you can get to the carb bowl, drain it. Otherwise try forcing the water through. Remove the air cleaner and dribble a little bit (~1/2 teaspoon) of gas (not starter fluid) into the intake. Pull a couple times. Expect it to cough and die as the gas runs out. Doing this 5-6 times often clears enough water for it to take care of itself. If it isn't helping you'll need to clean out the carb.
