Pet stains
I did a search and didn't find this so.....
My sister's husband was in Iraq for six months, and a friend was supposed to stay in their house and watch over their two cats for them while she was here in SLC. Said "friend" neglected the cats, and she just returned home to six months of cat stains and odor. Short of recarpeting the place, which isn't possible because they live in military housing and aren't allowed to change stuff like that, are there any products out there that really get out pet stains and odor? I've never had to deal with this so I really don't know. Thanks. |
I've used a product called "Nature's Miracle" with pretty good results. I'm not sure how well it would work six months after the fact, but it might be worth a try. It's a little pricey, but a little bit goes a long way.

If anything will do it, Nature's Miracle is it. Really though, if the carpeting and padding were soaked and dried for that long it's almost impossible to get odor-free. I've helped a friend with a dog problem and we had to saturate the areas that were bad, then use an extractor on them. Several times. Each time it got a little better.
Do what you can then use a baking soda freshener repeatedly. Hopefully the weather will allow lots of open windows. :) |
I third the motion to use Nature's Miracle. It's an enzymatic cleaner that really, really works. You can totally saturate fabric (after doing a test for colorfastness), and it'll get out even really old nasty stains.
On the back of the bottle, in the instructions, it says something like, "If after use you still have odors, you didn't use enough Nature's Miracle". In my experience, that's totally true. Enough NM will take care of most any pet odor. White bottle, red print and cap. They have a formula that's "just for cats" now, but I don't know what's different about it. You can find it at PetsMart or someplace similar. |
Thanks you guys. I'll pass the info along, I know it's greatly appreciated!!

Nature's Miracle works if you douse the stained area. Sure it left the room smelling like a hospital for a couple of days but it did what it had to. I was a complete supporter of this product....until today. I got some stuff called Zero Odor. My basement reaked of cat piss (even after Nature's Miracle, I must have not gotten everything) but with a couple of spritzes from the bottle (no saturation needed) my basement smells like nothing. It can also be used for other smells like cigarette smoke in a car and whathaveyou. Trust me, it works better. Much much better.
