preventing razor burn

How should i go about preventing razor burn on the under part of my chin and neck. I have an electric shaver, one of those three ciricualr spinning things. I shave dry, and don't use any shaveing cream because the instructions on the shaver say i don't need to have any, and why spend the money and why make the mess...

anyways I need advice on what i should do to get a close shave on the under part of my neck

If the instructions say shaving cream is not necessary but you are still getting razor burn I would suggest you use shaving cream then. Buy a standard can of Colgate shaving cream. It is inexpensive and if you only use it on that portion of your face it will last you several months. Surely you can spare and extra $12.00 a year to prevent razor burn? I hope things work out for you.

Check out this thread in Sexuality: <a href="http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=27995"> Everything about SHAVING...ANYWHERE</a>. There's a lot about shaving your face too.

In short, those 10+ pages say: Use a Mach3. Have a shower or wet your face with hot water to soften it. Get a mug of really hot water to rinse the razor, put the shaving creme/gel on and let it sit for 20 seconds or so. Keep the razor rinsed in hot water after every couple of strokes and go with the grain, then against if you want. Afterwards rince your face really well with warm/hot water, then rinse or splash with really cold water and use moisturiser to calm your face down.

After the shower, like Rlyss said. However, if you rinse the razor in hot water it will get dull real fast. If you use cold water to rinse the razor it will stay sharp a lot longer. Cold shrinks metal, makes it harder and the blade sharper.

i don't know if they have "The Body Shop" stores where you live, but they make a great aftershave cream for men that works really well to soothe the burn.

Seconded, 2sheds. Great nick, btw. Do you in fact have two sheds?

Here's the one I'm using right now, that I like a lot:

Their "arbor" scent is very nice.

it's actually from an early monty python skit where a guy picked up a nickname for no real reason, but couldn't get rid of it. i had to make up a nickname for another group a few years ago and had no good ideas, so i thought it'd be clever to use the meaningless nickname from the skit.

btw, i was wrong about it being clever. to date, no one has ever recognized it from the python skit.

and truth be told, i've no sheds at all.

if you're remotely interested, you can read the whole skit here:

if you're having trouble with razor burn I would ditch the electric, use a decent razor (mach 3 is good, there are others) and never go against the grain.

I used my Mach3 Power dry and against the grain and except for a few nicks, it got rid of the razor burn in less than two hours with one application.

I've found this advice to be right on for me. I use a blade....don't think it's a Mach 3 but it is a Gillette Sensor or something. I also find that shaving with the grain is better as it doesn't pull the blade down into your skin and also doesn't cause ingrown hairs. For me that leads to zits until I get the hair out....and that is a lot of trouble.

Generally speaking, it would be a mistake to think that a Monty Python reference could happen without my noticing it.

Mach 3 turbo, shave with the grain after a hot shower.
Worked well for me until I had laser hair removal. Now my neck is clean like a baby's ass.

Mach3's are great. I use either a Mach3 or my trusty Braun electric shaver.

Here's the thing about electric shavers...the rotary head shavers, SUCK. They are HORRIBLE. They always gave me massive razor burn under my chin and around my neck. You have to constantly scrub around in all directions to pick up the hair. Engineered by asshats.

A double or triple head electric shaver from a company like Braun or Remington is the way to go. Especially Braun...the high quality German engineering stigma is true for them. My 2 head, washable head Braun gives me a great shave without the irriation I get from any traditional razor. Although I'm starting to use my Mach3 more now that my acne is clearing up (after a good six years, about god damn time). My face is usually beat red for a few hours, and it exposes all acne and other flaws on my face from the irritation. Goes away in a few hours, but my Braun doesn't do that at all.

I would like to add a simple addition to the shaving method for the Mach3 listed above.

Put vodka in the shaving cup when you store the razor. It will keep the blades sharp and at the same time sterilize the same blades.
