Running Toilet
There is a constant trickle of water comming from one of the water outlet holes under the rim of the toilet bowl where the water comes from when the toilet is flushed. I have already replaced the flapper, so I am sure it is not that. My only other guess is the seal where the fresh water flows into the bowl rim is worn and needs to be replaced. And if it is that, can it be replaced or do I just need a new toilet tank. The toilet is only 6 years old. Thanks

if your toliet is running, you'd better go catch it!!! AHAHAHAHHAHA!
no, seriously... have you called up Lowe's/ Home Depot to ask their plumbing guys? They're usually helpful with this kind of stuff. Also, you could call the manufacturer of the toilet, and they might be able to tell you what to do. Good luck!

replace the ball and cock...
that's the stick in the middle with the float and chain that holds the flapper.

Home depot has kits ( about 20 dollars ) that has all the parts to replace the entire guts to the toilet, if you have to. Good instructions, it's easy, I've done it a few times and I am by no means a plumber. Also, whille you are there, grab one of those how-to books and look through it. They usually have diagnosis charts.

I would point my finger at the float or the chain that is pulled when you push the handle. In ether case they can both be adjusted. If the float is the issue the toilet is overflowing water because it is hitting the overflow point before the float stops it from filling, if it can't be adjusted, just bend the rod down In the case of the chain it is too taught so it is keeping the flap in the bottom of the tank slightly open, let out a few links so it gets a good seal.

This may be a stinker to fix. A 6 yo toilet won't have bad seats unless your water is terrible. What I have seen is the overflow tube (usually plastic) has a crack which allows flow to support the condition queried.

Well, I ended up replacing everything in the toilet, and Kazoo was correct. I discovered the overflow tube did have a hairline crack at the base and. I did purchase an entire replacement kit for $20.00 at Home Depot which had everything. It took me about 1 hour and now it works great.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. |

This was due to sediment from the pipes getting caught in the membrane mechanism that shut off our water...making pinholes & preventing a true seal. It got worse over time. I could have called for repair work, but that generally tkaes time. A $6 trip to Home Depot & some on-the-job training fixed it>

buy a bag of water softer tabs and place them into the tank every month. That will prevent the problems of the water killing the seats and anything rubber. Plus don't replace the fill valve unless there is a crack or you have no water filling.
