clean the treadmill

Anyone here have their own treadmill that needs cleaning? Mine stinks very badly, and I really dont know much about how to get the smell out. it is in the motor, and on the mat itself. I know it is from all the hours of me sweating on it, and not really every cleaning it up.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Spray the whole thing down with lysol, well all the parts you make contact with. Mat, hand grips, etc. Let it dry and see if it still stinks, if so, repeat.

This may sound crazy to do but you could also if it has a deck that folds up. Put it in a bike bag like you can get around the christmas season, spray the bag with the lysol and seal it for a day or so and let the spray kill any fungus that is living in the nooks and such.

I would see if you could remove the belt and clean underneath it. im sure the smell is building up down there. if you cant remove it, lift it and use lysol generously. I would probably stay off it until all the lysol has evaporated from underneath, but im sure that will solve 90% of your problem.

I'd be careful cleaning under the belt. I think most tradmills have a lubricant under there. After cleaning, you may want to re-lube it before you put the belt back on and use it.

good call on the under the belt thing. they do have a lubricant under there that you would want to replace/refresh when done.

use a silcon spray on the mechanisms that spin. That should unstick things.

I have a cleaner kit for mine. Its like a wand that you spray down with a cleaner/lubricant, then you place the wand under the track and turn the treadmill on... Its very easy and works well. I got the kit at sears....
