Economics degree
What do you do with an econ degree?
really? is there much opportunity with it? What sort of careers, and such? |
Banks hire them. You can get a PHD and teach. Or work for the goverment.
I got one o' them "useful" degrees (accounting), but to be honest, don't know what you can do with an econ one. |
I've got one, and I'm a happy economic consultant. Wheee!
Seriously, though, we do all sorts of stuff. Economic Impact work, SEIAs, etc. Areas: Oil and Gas industry, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Forestry, Community Economic Development, Tourism... Types of Analyses: Project Evaluation and Assessments, Economic analysis, Market analysis.. basically anything that government and industry needs done that they don't want done in-house. More and more, this type of work is outsourced or strategically carried out by a third-party to avoid conflict of interest issues. Depending on what sort of economics you're interested in (i.e. heavy theory or practical micro/macro stuff), there are plenty of opportunities, especially in Canada. Heck, the economics of the Oil and Gas sector in Calgary and southern Alberta should keep you pretty damn busy. I could probably look up and give you some company names if you'd like to call someone and ask what it is they do. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more information, or to find out where I work and check out our website. |
I'm sure you can do so much with an economics degree, any business organisation would want to take someone on who understands the finer points of economics. It is a good degree to have, so good infact in nearly done it myself. Then i saw the amount of work so doing a Business degree instead.
