Research paper topic help
 

Hello tfp-ers!
I have a 10 page research paper due in about six weeks. I am supposed to write about job issues in America but I don’t want to do something cliche like sexual harassment or unions. So Im looking for recommendations on a good topic. Please help! thanks

I'm in a science/health related field. Here are a couple off of the top of my head (not sure if they will all fit into the scope of your project):

Malpractice insurance costs for doctors and how they may prevent good doctors from practicing medicine

The ethics of scientists performing potentially life saving research on animals (or embryonic stem cells)

The discrepance in pay between scientists (who perform the life-saving research) and clinicians (who implement the life saving research)?

and one unrelated to the health/science field:
Europeen vs. American work ethic, productivity, and vacation time

If I think of any more, I'll post them.

outsourcing in the computer industry is a pretty big issue these days. there's probably lots of good info available online.

views of gen-x on work ethics.

How about the effect of a proposed minimum wage increase. I think it's a good idea to take your topic out of the current events. It makes it relevant and interesting, not just to the teacher, but to you as well.

How about something on tipping
 

There are lots of issues concerning tipping you could write a research paper on. Does tipping increase service levels? Why do some workers depend on tips for a living but not others? Is tipping good or should it be replaced with service charges as is done in europe?

You should look at the fast food industry and what kind of treatment its employees receive. (They're primarily people our age, so it's definitely going to be relevant to your peers.)

Tied in with the minimum wage suggestion - the cost of benefits (healthcare, etc.) and the rising cost of the workforce.

by Barbara Ehrenreich. We are supposed to base our research paper on the book so I do plan to write about something that affects the minimum wage workers of America. I probably will go with CoachAlans about minimum wage increase but outsourcing is also appealing because of the amount of info about it. So its a toss up between those two.. Thanks again!
