Toilet Bowl Repair
My toilet keeps running until you jiggle the handle. The flap inside stays up when flushed and this causes the water to run until I either lift the tank cover and push it down or hit the handle once or twice. I know you all know what I am talking about. In the past, I have relaced the whole mechanism, but this toilet is only 2 years old. I'd like to keep the original equipment in there. I took the flap off and cleaned it and the two hooks it attaches to, but it didn't fix the problem. Is there a way to fix this without buying new equipment? Thanks for your help.

If the flapper refuses to float down on it's own there may be some debris holding it up.
Also, check to see that the chain isn't too tight connecting the flapper to the float. It should be loose when closed. |
I had that problem also, and it seemed the chain kept snagging itself when trying to drop the flapper. It does sound like a chain problem.

I went and checked the chain. It was fine. Then I noticed that the flapper was getting hung up on the tube it is connected to. I took a pair of scissors and trimmed some of the flapper off. It works fine. Thanks for your help.
