It's taken me long enough... but now I know what I want..
I didn't get to finish college back in the day for personal reasons...
but ever since I was a senior in high school I never had a real idea of what I wanted to get into as far as a career. I contemplated a lot of different areas, but none of them were "me." So now I know, and I'm hoping to get some ideas about what kind of courses to take when I get back into school. I'd like to work for a book publisher... Scholastic, Penguin, etc. Don't know yet what I'd like to do specifically in it, but I've always loved books, literature, I could spend hours on end in a bookstore. And no, I don't want to be a librarian :hmm: So any ideas where to start? |
English would be a good start. Depending on the publisher, a different major or a double major might be a good idea as well. If you want to work for someone like Canto who publishes more intellectual books, philosophy wouldn't be bad. If you want to work with foreign books, take the foreign language of your choice. Take some business classes or even a business minor, but don't major in business. An English degree is going to look more attractive to a business than a business degree, and will help you out more at work.
So to sum up -- major in English, maybe do a double major to specialize in something, and minor in business. |
Start w/the basics (English major), and let the second degree come later. There are many course you can start w/just for the basic degree. Perhaps some of these will help you define the secondary.
