Mounting speakers into brick?

Here's my sitrep. My pops just bought a new house and had spkr wire run out to his patio. I've got some old outdoor spkrs that I'm gonna give him. The problem is that the junction boxes where the spkr wire comes out happens to be a brick wall. I've never delt with brick before. I know that there are special screws that you have to buy and I bought a couple last week albeit they were too short so I didn't use them. My main questions are:
Do I drill into the mortar?
Do I drill into the brick?
If I drill into the brick won't the brick crack?
do I really need a hammer dril to do this? Or can I use a regular drill with a steady hand and some patience?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to purchase some masonery drill bits & it should not crack. When you go to buy the bit, bring the screws that you bought to ensure that you get the right size. Its pretty easy.

you don't really need a hammer drill if you are feeling strong

I recommend drilling into the mortar between the bricks. I have done this many times, and never had a problem. I used a regular drill and a masonary drill bit. And as agball said, make sure you size the drill bit to the screws.

If you drill into the mortar, you may want to use some lead or zinc anchors. They are basically like drywall anchors, but made out of metal. That will help ensure a tight fit in the mortar.

Yeah I've heard of drilling the hole and pumping some silicon into it and have see the ancors like you put in the drywall. I just want to have a good plan of attack cuz I only have one shot at this. I'll probably drill into the brick sine it would position the speaker better. I've got the masonry bit. I probably check out the anchors. If I'm gonna do this might as well do it right. Thanks for the input!

If you elect to use Tapcon™ anchors or a similar product, they usually include a bit with the package, as the sizing is precise. You can drill into brick and use lead anchors as advised by fhqwhgads and if the hole becomes sloppy, tamp in a piece of lead wool, available at plumbing supply houses.
