Laundry advice?
I made the fatal mistake of buying bedsheets from the University Student Agency. Set of two, right? I use one for a while, it gets dirty, I put it in the washing machine, then the dryer, and it comes out with those annoying little balls of fabric you see on really old blankets. Thereafter sleeping on the bedsheets is scratchy and weird.
So I switched over to the other set, and now it's time to wash them. Is there anything I can do to minimize ballage? |
The quality of sheets is the problem....... there's a number on the package that states the 'Thread Count' This is the amount of threads per square inch........ Sheets with a thread count of 250-300 are the best, anything lower and they suXXor........ as to washing them, use the gentle cycle so they don't get the beat down by the agitator and don't pack them in tight with other stuff....... it ahem, 'rubs them the wrong way'

You could try using Downy or some kinda fabric softener on them, I don't know how well this would work but it's worth a shot.

Wash sheets? During College? Why? :)
I guess I must have gone to the wrong place for lernin. Seriously though, the more you wash them, the less that they will pill. Fabric softener might help... The washer should have a setting for gentle cycle, and also set the dryer for a lower temperature setting... that should help you "minimize ballage".... hehehehe... :o :) /immature |
You can attempt to remove the 'pills' with a razor. It's not a perfect fix, but it will remove the larger annoyances. The vaunted Mach 3 worked well, but a straight razor or normal razor blade will do the trick. Just don't cut through the sheets.

Often masking tape will also remove pills, but it depends on the fabric.

Ive got a set of sheets like that. Gave me some wicked carpet burn on my knees after having a long weekend with the girlfriend. They make a clothes shaver thats battery operated that will cut off all of the little fuzz balls. Quality sheets are a must.

Dont put them in the dryer, the high heat kills them, also wash with cold water.
