Bike parts/repair (Specialized)
I picked up a Specialized StumpJumper bicycle at a garage sale on the weekend.
Thing is that the front forks have suspension, and the tops of the shocks are missing the caps/covers/plugs that would hold the oil in. I am certain these are oil shocks. I took them all apart last evening, and drained the water and lefterover oil out, and cleaned them all up. Can anyone tell me what caps I need for these shocks, and the proper way to re-fill them with oil and get them going again ? The shocks themselves say Specialized - Future Shock - made in USA on them. Thanks. |

Found out a bit more in case this helps. Looks like specialized was buying these from rockshox, and they are the same as Rockshox Mag 10`s or Mag 21`s.
Apperently it looks like I need is called "aircaps". Plus a suspension pump. Plus the knowledge to install. That's where I'm hoping TFP can help. |

OK - no gear heads in TFP. At least none that stumbled on this thread yet.
FYI update. I disassembled the shocks last night and found that the aircaps had been pushed in so that the rubber seals were simply inside the tube of the upper rod. By replacing them in the air cap assembly, and (after thourough cleaning) adding new oil, and re-assembly, I was able to pump up the suspension and it all appears good. learnin' by disassembly....one of the best ways! |
