How to build a speaker....not car!
I asked a while ago where to find replacement woofers. Now I got looking into some of the stuff out there, and I was wondering if anyone had a website, book, or first hand knowledge about how you go about building yourself some actual speakers.

Do you me the actual raw speaker? Or like a 3way tower with a woofer midrange and tweeter? If your talking raw frame, it's a bitch to do...

Well, im thinking the tower. Actually buy the woofers and all. Just dimesnions, construction methods, wattages , etc.
Not necesarily a tower, but I did want to build two of those, and like four other smaller speakers with just one 8 inch woofer, and a tweeter in them. |

Well, I will start you off with a tip. A cube is the worst possible speaker enclosure because of the reflections in the cabinet. Rectangles are pretty standard and work well.
To deaden the inside of the cabinet a bit, try putting in insulation (the kind used in the walls of houses) or foam (like from a sleeping pad). |

I have some information on speaker enclosures (Enclosure Info), but its mainly based around car subwoofers.

I got into trying to do this and you will spend less money just buying some. If your going for a custom job then you don't want directions because then it wont be custom...

Ok for all the info...and parts and crossovers you can assemble yourself... www.partsexpress.com has to be one of the best sites around.......they will give you any info...from wood to use and how the box should be shaped, or www.madisound.com has pretty sweet individual components...which you can make a hell of a speaker system for home with. It is cheaper if you know how to do it and you want something totally custom and very sweet sounding.
