Wrong gas/oil mix in yard tool
When my weedwhacker ran dry last weekend, I filled up the tank and after a few seconds of running, it died and would not restart. Never had a problem before, and I had no idea what I had done wrong until I smelled the fuel in the little tank. I had actually grabbed the wrong jug and used the chainsaw gas/oil mix instead of the 32:1 the weedwhacker requires.
I never was able to start it up, so I did not get the black rich, smoke going on, if that is an indicator of how much damage I have done. My question is, now that I have drained the tank but left the remaining rich mix in the fuel line, what is the best approach to getting back on track and fixing any problems (gumming?) Thanks |
Well the first thing you should do is pull the sparkplug and clean it, It's probally fouled...... If it still dosen't start, (most likely it will ) take the air filter off and spray some starter fluid in the carb, If you have spark and gas it will start for sure....... then just run it until the chainsaw mix in the carb is used up. You could drain the carb first...... there's a little drain screw at the bottom of the float bowl on the carb.

they aren't so sensitive as to know the difference between 32:1 or 60:1
likely you have some setteled out pure oil sucked into the carb. it's a good idea to shake up premix that has been sitting any time to re-homogenize the mixture. anyway, if it truly is plugged up with oil it will probably have to come apart. weed eater carbs are dead simple though so give it a try if you like. get a can of carb cleaner and have at it. or you can put some straight gas in it and try to start it for a few hours, and if it finally does, switch the gas out with the proper mix immediately. |
Same thing happened to my leaf blower. Cleaned the spark plug and it started right up (after putting in the right fuel).

Thanks guys - works like a charm now.

shouldn't have to do much but put the correct gas in and start pulling. If it's still not catching put a lean mixure in it just to get it firing and then the correct. Still not, then clean the plug and all.
