if you use a gillete mach 3 or sensor try spraying the blades with PAM cooking spray. It will prevent the blades from rusting and make them last 10 times as long and saves you some $$ too.

those damn blades are expensive!

yeow... if I used my razors till they rusted, I'd be so cut up it's not funny. remember boys and girls, fresh, SHARP razors make the world go round. ;)

the razors shouldn't rust anytime soon anyways. they should get all nice and dull before they ever rust. i use mine until it hurts to shave with it, and it's not rusty then. do you keep yours in water when you're not using it?

Tip from my hospital consultant:

Wait a while after getting up before shaving to allow the fluid to drain from your face -> closer shave.

Ladies, presumably, should shave legs first thing - or after lying down for a while.

ummm, if you're using a razor blade that's going to rust you aren't using a real razor. Razors are made with stainless steel, it doesn't rust.

I don't know about that pam advice, I was always under the impression that the blades were stainless steal. On the other hand I know, from personal experience, that if you shave after you shower your razors last much much longer. (because the hair is soft from the shower its much easyer on the razor) I have also heard that women's razors last for a much longer time (never actually checked, but it seems sort of plausible, on one occasion I was helping a friend shave all of his body hair off, and the mens Bics couldn't even come close to surviving a whole leg, if a woman can squeeze two legs or more out of a lady's Bic they must be made of some pretty stern stuff)

giblfiz: part of that is we're re-shaving, not running through the first time, but... you may have a point.

I don't use Mach 3, I use the earlier Sensor blades. Do the Mach 3s have the little soap strip on them like the Sensors do? Because the soap strip gets worn away long before the blade goes bad, making the shave less smooth. Spraying PAM on the blades might make the blades drag less on your skin, like the soap did. Which means you get a smoother shave with less scraping.

I dunno about you people but I shave with my Ka-Bar.

I have a straight razor that i've been using for five years.

My skin is really sensetive. It's two weeks of hellishly bad skin if I don't use a new Mach 3 Turbo blade every single time. It's fucking expensive. I need to try waxing or something. I've tried nearly every blade out there, and nothing else can do it. Even using one for the first time, I get irritated. If I don't shave, I look like a bum (Is ist still PC to say that?)

My beard isn't particularly thick, so I usually use the same razor for about three weeks, or until my face starts to hurt after shaving and I have to shave over the same spot a few times.

The mineral oil thing sounds like a good idea, but Ashton, you really need to get a more readable color, that took me about twice as long to read as it would in the default color.

Mr. SD, I'm the same way. I use mine about twice for each blade, then I've got to have a new one. Must be really sensitive skin. I usually just shave with an electric. I save the real razor for *special* occasions that require really smooth skin.

Mine is sensitive too. So, a few years ago, I grew a beard. I don't shave anymore, except on the neck and upper cheeks with an electric. I don't think I look like a bum, and my skin loves me. It also cuts down on the time spent in the bathroom each morning.

Mach III RULEZ!!! I'm going to try the mineral oil thing. The ladies have a version for them that is awesome as well.

If you're buying it because you think that an electric razor will be less troublesome than using a regular razor, don't bother. It takes a long ass time to get it to work properly at all, and when it does it still isn't that close of a shave and is still annoying to use.

I think it's just a practice thing, I get a decent shave w/my dry Braun shaver

I've heard stories though that people going from razors to electrics will have problems for a couple of weeks getting a close shave because using the razor toughens up your skin, making it hard for the electric to get a close shave.

no its not that i think it will be so much greater; its just that for how much mach 3 blades cost after buying a few multi pakcs, it costs as much as a electric razor. besides the cost which isn't the main reason, its that i want a wet/dry razor simply cause i prefer to shave in the shower, cause its easier, and i wet/dry razors are the only ones you can just wash off.

a few places have last year's panasonic model for ~$60 so next time there is a sale, they will probably the price im willing to pay.

Anyone else able to dry shave with a razor...for weeks? Yes, I'm 20, and I grow facial hair...just not a lot. =/

I shave pretty much every other day, but I like to skip on the weekends. Yeah, I use a Mach 3 Turbo and they are outrageous, but no enought to make me stop using them :)

just wanted to add a bit about that strip along the top of the mach 3 blades.

when you buy the box, it tells you that when the blue on that strip wears away, then the razor is done for, but i get at least 2 weeks out of one mach 3 blade change, sometimes upto three weeks, while the strip will have faded at about week 1.

it's a marketing thing, i know, but i'd love it if it stayed on a bit longer. it makes shaving that much more enjoyable.

and i've gone from the mach 3, to the mach 3 turbos, back to the original mach 3. the turbo was a brilliant shave, but i just can't afford to pay that much for razors!

an 8 back is like 30 bucks.

Just my view, no-shaving cream... so easy and if you shave "other" areas, it would be that much safer... Really tho, never tried it on my face yet... maybe I should do that.

I work as an electrician in department stores at night where I can steal Mach 3's. So I don't care how long they last, BUT I use an electric to get rid of most, then use a wet shave for the finale. Hot foam machines are nice too...give that barber's touch.

My stepdad told me to try visit a real barber shop .. The ones who use the barber knife. He tells me that he is completely shaved for about 2 weeks before any hairs grow back out .. but he might be exagurating abit, but anyways .. could be fun to try.

I find that the first shave with Mach III turbo can be rough. It is too sharp. Ussually the next few are the best.

I've been shaving for over 25 years and always used a dry electric shaver. I have a fairly light beard so I can get away with it. Those with really full facial hair will probably be disappointed with an electric shaver. Electrics dont' shave as close as a blade and you will have a 5 o'clock shadow (at 5 o'clock). If you have light facial hair an electric is the only way to go IMO. I've use a Braun and Remmington and been disappointed with them. They are very noisy. I have settled on Norelco as they use a circular blade and they give a nice close shave. My newest one, an X-mas gift from my wife, allows me to clean it by running it under the faucet. Very nice.

I've used the Mach III Turbo since they tricked me into trying it by putting one of them in with the regular Mach III pack as a marketing demo and I'll never go back. I've found that Target has them even cheaper than Wal-Mart (go figure). As for shaving against the grain, as was mentioned above earlier, I've never shaved any other way. If I go with the grain, it barely cuts the hair off. Same with my electric; I've never gotten a remotely close shave from it. Good tips from people, though, like the mineral oil one; I'll have to try that...

For the ultimate shave, use a bar of shaving soap, hot water and apply with a shaving brush...one of the last true masculine pleasures.
