Help - avi and Powerpoint
 

I have some .avi videos that I would like to include in a power point presentation. I'm using Microsoft office 2007. Inserting the videos was a straightforward process, but when I play them, I have problems. The audio works great, but the image is black. This happens both in the preview and in the slide show.

The videos are not corrupted, I have no problems viewing them with windows media player.

Any help will be appreciated.

Just guessing here, but I would think that since PowerPoint is a Microsoft product, converting the avi files to wmv files might solve your problem. Have you been keeping up with your avi codecs? If you told us that you're having problems playing avi files in your Windows Media Player (another MS product), I would guarantee that it's a missing codec.

There are free video converters all over the internet. Any Video Converter works great for me.

Or, Google "K-Lite codecs" and download the newest codec pack.

The files work great in windows media player... Looks like I'm up to date on codecs.
Converted them to wmv and now it's fine. Thanks!

Glad the conversion to wmv helped.

Was this on your screen or on an external display? I responded on Facebook to try disabling hardware video acceleration, but that only causes problems with external displays.

Hey MSD, it was on my monitor... do you consider that an external display? We have a dual-monitor setup, and it was on the secondary monitor.

Yeah, if it's a secondary display it doesn't matter what type of device it is. With a bit of searching, it seems it's a problem with PPT calling an outside codec that plays the video in overlay mode.

Thanks for looking into it, MSD. I added music and edited the videos a bit when I converted them. Made them way more fun.
