TFP BOOK CLUB, BOOK 1

Ok guys I'm gonna post a bunch of amazon links (feel free to shop elsewhere, or pick it up from the library, just giving you lazy folk an easy way out. ;) ) to the books that we're chosing between for our first book... anyone is welcome to vote, highest votes will win. It's saturday evening (7/12/03) now, I'll leave the poll open for a week or until i stop getting votes, whichever comes first. PS: you can have multiple votes, so check all the one's you're interested in, and we'll see where we are. :)

Farenheight 451 by Ray Bradbury

Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey

The Avengers by Rich Cohen

I, Lucifer: Finally, the Other Side of the Story, $10.40 by Glen Duncan
Barnes and Noble link, $11.70

Me talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

Legacies by L.E. Modesett Jr.

Permanence by Karl Schroeder

Lebell 07-12-2003 11:55 PM

While Fareheit 451 is a great book, I've read it.

Any of the others is fine, since I have no clue what they are about :)

cheerios 07-13-2003 01:34 AM

i haven't read most of those, so I linked em to amazon, and provided author and title, so y'all can pull synopses up as you wish. :)

dtheriault 07-13-2003 05:10 AM

having read all the reviews i thought i, lucifer looked the most fun. however if me talk pretty wins i'll gladly read it.

Mongolguy 07-13-2003 10:56 AM

These all sound pretty good to me, Time to hit the ...um library. ;)

deadbabiesrhot 07-15-2003 11:34 AM

ive already read like 5 of these, but i wouldnt mind discussing them!

GunslingerCold 07-15-2003 12:58 PM

Out of the choices I think I, Lucifer looks like it would be the best for a book club reading. Also, if Kushiel's Dart wins, would we read the other books next?

cheerios 07-15-2003 03:30 PM

depends on how this goes. if it's a big flop, I'll probably let it die. but if it works out, I'll prob suggest #2 from the list, if (as it appears) there's 2 or 3 top books from this, then call another vote after that.

Azharen 07-15-2003 04:59 PM

I just put I, Lucifer in the lead... :)

ratbastid 07-15-2003 05:30 PM

And I put it WAY in the lead. I've been wanting to read that!

Unfortunately, I may have to beg out for this month and join next month. I'm currently making my way through Harry Potter and the Jolly Great Novel of Tediousness.

Good point. Don't have an answer though.

I'm currently reading this one and it's very very good. Don't know how I'll squeeze in another if it's not picked since I'm reading Kushiel's Dart at work, and American Gods at home, but I think I can manage.

cheerios 07-15-2003 07:12 PM

ah, sorry, misread the question about the sequels. let's try to answer that again... if it wins, and if we like it, and if we want to read the remaining books... we will. ;) if not, then we won't.

::cheers grins at her great solution ;) ::

GunslingerCold 07-16-2003 05:38 AM

works for me

Peetster 07-17-2003 04:21 AM

How cool, it's a sticky. Given the down time between posts since it takes time to read a book, it's a good idea.

I'm in, cheers.

Kadath 07-17-2003 06:03 AM

When are you going to call this one voted out and get us to reading? I'm only reading two books at once right now, and I'd like the third to be fror the bookgroup.

gangle 07-17-2003 07:54 AM

A little late? I know. However, I've always wanted to read '341' but never got off my ass to get it and I usually forget when in a bookshop or amazon and I lucifer looks pretty interesting

gangle 07-17-2003 07:58 AM

Anyone know a link so I could just D/L them to my palm??? ;)
thanks

cheerios 07-17-2003 01:09 PM

Kadath: read the first post. Things are still shiftin' so I'm gonna leave it till it closes.

gangle: no, not too late at all. :) and, no, you can't just download books. that's like pirating music. the author don't get his kickback. and, unlike music, in books the author gets a kickback PER BOOK so it's well worth supporting them.

and, as I hit submit, I remember about those e-book thingys... i don't know a thing about those, so if that's what you're talking about, ignore previous paragraph. ;)

MacGnG 07-18-2003 09:11 AM

i dunno bout any of those books really, but i do need something (else) to read.

cheerios 07-19-2003 12:48 AM

ok boys and girls, voting is officially closed!! I, Lucifer wins by a landslide! ;) Hit the bookstores, the libraries, or the internet, we'll convene back here (new thread, but same spot) in as long as it takes for people to get books, and we'll go from there! :D

redravin40 07-19-2003 10:51 PM

Picked up my copy at Borders today.
I've only read the first dozen pages but it looks great.
