Heat pump advice/knowledge required
I have in my hands 3 quotes for installation of a heat pump in my house. They are all within $300 so I am basing my choice on quality, efficiency, warranty.... The manufacturers are lennox, figidaire & goodman. Does anyone have any experience with heat pumps and know which are good or bad?

I had a Lennox package unit installed at my old house. Worked great. Never heard of the other brands.

NEWBIE ALERT-------NEWBIE ALERT
Lennox, I concur. I installed and maintained heat pumps in the Air Force while in Oklahoma and New Mexico and Lennox was the one I had to perform little work on. That's a good thing. Just done expect it to work all that good when it's under 40 degrees outside. They are mainly for supplemental heating only. There, I'm not a newbie anymore. :D |
Lennox has a great reputation in the HVAC world - Frigidaire is more engulfed in the appliance market (mid to low end) and i've never heard of goodman. Of course, my new condo has a carrier gas furnace so they're not my problem anymore :P

Just so you know, If you go to hvac-talk.com or alt.hvac they all berate Goodman/Janitrol units. I dont believe they are all that bad. Good advice is; The quality of the installation is more important than the quality of the unit.

Thanks for the links contrail. Good info.

There are many good units out there. The quality of installation, warranty, and type/manufacture of the compressor are the most important. Pay extra to get a unit with a Copeland "Compliance Scroll" compressor (vice the recipicating style) if possible. Lennox, Trane, Carrier, and Heil (Kenmores Best) are the premier brands.
