DVD Ripping?

I was just wondering about how you would go about ripping a DVD?

In conclusion, I was just wondering if anyone could recomend something for me.

Thank you.

kind of a large topic, but for easy one click backups of dvd's that does a fair job of most anything, find a copy of dvd shrink.. i believe their official website is no longer around but its still available elsewhere.

download/install a copy of dvd decryptor
let 'er rip
if you want to burn a copy and have a single layer burner, shrink files with dvd shrink
burn the ripped files using nero or another burning program
for nero, start a dvd-video project and put all dvd files in VIDEO_TS

doom9.net is a good resourse for information

I use dvd shrink and it works with about 95% of the dvd's I burn. The odd one just refuses to burn and it gives me some lame errors but that hardly ever happens

Here is a linky with the program and a detailed step-by-step tutorial

dvd decryptor is no longer free and may be a little too confusing. Dvd Shrink is in my experience the easyest program an it lets you select just the main movie or an specific chapter very simply as well. The advantage of Dvd Decryptor is that it has a dvd burner embedded in itself whereas you will need nero or other burning solution with dvdshrink

The only thing I found to work for ripping is DVD Decoder. BUT. It rips them in GIGANTIC .vob files that are useless to me.

I then open up AutoGK to try to convert, but it like... takes forever? And... yeah. In conlusion, is it supposed to take forever?

Cause once it's in AVI, I'm all set. Because I can use VirtualDub to cut/edit, and then TMPGEnc to shrink it.

My only problem is the converting to AVI. Is there a dvd ripper that rips exactly to avi or anything besides vob?

I don't want to burn, I want to rip videos onto my computer.

Go to http://doom9.net/ and look at the basics and the FAQ. And yes it takes a long, long time. I have a bitchen computer, and it takes 2 to 4 hours per DVD to convert to xvid. You need to read the guides so you know what you’re doing, this is a complex process and not something that is learned in an hour.

I use Gordian knot and it works great, once you learn how to use it, here is a link to a guide on Gordian knot

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/gknot-main2.htm

once again this is a lengthy process.

it seems to be free right here -- http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1011845169/1
and i guess i spelled it wrong originally

i like decrypter because you can rip scratched dvds. you can change settings so it allows you to take the disc out and wipe it off if it's not reading properly.

No longer updated is a more correct way of saying it. DVD Decrypter will no longer be able to handle new encryptions, but there are ways around it if you go to doom9 and do soem reading. I was looking at it last night but I was kinda high so I forget what forum it was I read the information at.

I have a laptop, so I don't know if I want to leave it on overnight since it might overheat?

Most laptops built within the last few years will dynamically under clock them selves if they get to hot. If your really concerned 2 books under the sides so it will get airflow underneath.
