Miller Lite vs. Budweiser

I know we have all seen the Miller commercials with the "President of Beers" campaign. At first, I thought they were funny.

However, Budweiser has come back and is just flat embarassing them. They have commercials talking about the spokesman being a horse's ass, about Miller being owned by a S. African company and not being eligible for president, and about them being the "Queen of Carbs."

Has anyone else heard these commercials? And do you agree? If I were Miller, I would pull those ads straightaway.

matthew330 06-23-2004 11:34 AM

Haven't seen the Budweiser commercials, but if i understood you correctly, it sounds like the only people Budweiser is embarassing are themselves. They took that one a little to seriously.

Everyone knows all American beers suck, at least Miller has a sense of humor about it. Miller Lite is a bit carbonated, but Budweiser is anything but the "King of Beers."

If i was stranded on a desert Isle, and had to choose between the lesser of two evils, it'd be Miller Lite all the way.

kurtisj 06-23-2004 09:22 PM

i found the adds mildly amusing. as of which is better.....im down with a becks beer.

absorbentishe 06-24-2004 04:48 AM

Both commercials are stupid, and take the whole Miller vs. Bud a little too far. Both need to stop needling each other, and just make good beer, well okay, that's not going to happen.

GM2 06-24-2004 02:41 PM

Not all American beers suck. The most popular brands aren't necessarily the best.

As for the commercials, when was the last time you went to the beer store and before you could make a decision, thought about who was winning the one-upmanship contest in the commercials?

I agree. Why do Coke, Pepsi, Budweiser, etc., even advertise?

As far as American beers, I like Sam Adams. Yuengling isn't that bad, nor is Rolling Rock.

It's all about unconscious brand recognition. And advertising isn't about converting die-hard brand loyal consumers. It's about affecting those on the fence. If one person goes to the store looking for something to drink and as their reaching for the freezer door, the thought of two lizards in a swamp flashes in their mind and they smirk, then they reach for a bud. That's what it's about.

Marketing is about creating a lasting image in the minds of consumers. It takes years to build that. It's a slow, subtle, sinister process of controlling the way we think and purchase.

But this is waaay to serious of a discussion for humor so here's a joke.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three vampires walk into a bar and sit down at a table. The waitress comes over and asks the first vampire what he would like. The first vampire responds, "I vould like some blood."

The waitress turns to the second vampire and asks what he would like. The vampire responds, "I vould like some blood."

The waitress turns to the third vampire and asks what he would like. The vampire responds, "I vould like some plasma."

The waitress looks up and says, "Let me see if I have this order correct. You want two bloods and a blood light?"

I think the commercials are funny, and I could see the whole south african thing swinging some nationalistic miller drinkers over to the bud side of the fence. That doesn't mean that I think Bud needed to do it. They have by far the largest market share of the big 3 brewers and that's not likely to change because of Bob Odenkirk debating a horse.

Also, Miller's tried to sue to get the 'queen of carbs' ad off of the air.

Now, regarding the statement that all American beer sucks... Not all American beer is made by the big three brewers. There are a whole lot of good craft brewers in America. Here are a few:

http://www.newbelgium.com/
http://www.rogue.com/
http://www.anchorbrewing.com/
http://www.stonebrew.com/
http://www.victorybeer.com/

There are many more. Before you slam American beers perhaps you should try to learn something. If all I ever heard of American music was the Backstreet Boys I'd think that all Amercan music sucks.

Moobie 06-25-2004 12:54 PM

American music does suck.... Has anyone heard the new Hasselhoff album?

Real beer has color. Miller, Bud, Becks, Grolsh, Corona, Fosters etc etc. are just a bunch of fru-fru lagers. America makes great beers, you just won't find them in the domestics section.

not to mention all the breweries mentioned by nogoodreason as well as countless others.

By the Way, Sam Adams sucks donkey dick

braindamage351 06-26-2004 04:14 PM

Hey. Americans did invent rock. Although all of the good rock bands are from England...

If I was stuck on an island with only Miller Lite and Budweiser I'd drink sea water.

agreed, American beer has never appealed to me, it looks like pee and tastes like water, and you need 6 times as much to get a little bit of a buzz.

I'm with jwoody sea water it is.

Or drinking your own urine, that's about the same as Bud or Miller.

For real beers, and all the real beer info a person can stand:
