Usually when cats get pissed, they put their ears back like that.

We have 3 cats. Two of them might let us put that stuff on them. The third cat gets pissed off at you the second you touch him with a brush. he's a Persian cat and because of that, his hair gets all matted. We took him to a vet and he was so nasty to them (he's pretty strong) that when I picked him up, they told me that they couldn't finish the job.
