Tron 2.0 - a forgotten FPS that deserved an audience
I just picked up a copy of Tron 2.0 for the PC - $4.95 new.
This game shouldn't have flopped - it's great fun to play with great designs in a neat setting. As I recall, some critics criticized Tron 2.0 for playing like most FPS already on the market. That kind of criticism is unfair - after all, the same critics wouldn't slam a WW2 FPS for playing like a space FPS - they just praise the art and graphics. That being said I'd highly recommend giving Tron 2.0 a try - especially since you can find copies for next to nothing nowadays (if you can find them at all). As an FPS it's pretty nice. It's even better if you saw the movie long ago. The Light Cycle races are really fun if you get the hang of it (it's very awkward at first). It takes some getting used to but I'm starting to get the hang of it - really captures the feel of how you imagined it was in the movie. When I saw Tron in the theater as a kid I thought the story was so-so ... but it was the Light Cycles that grabbed me. Now I get to play them! Here are some screencaps I got from online - the last one is one I capped with Fraps. I wanted to get a screencap with another cycle speeding in parallel with me - but it's too tough (I end up crashing in the split second it takes to reach for the screencap button). And the artistic design is full of transparent glowing objects ... pretty amazing at times. BTW - this is a "super light cycle" - The normal light cycle in the game is like the one in the movie. If you see a copy sitting in a bargain bin - give it a try. |

I agree!
I really enjoyed this game, I even used it as the subject for my gaming research paper in a "Digital Games & Global Culture" class that I took. The game was smart, fun, had a great design and I like how they incorporated all of the computer terms into the player advancement. I'm not sure why it didn't do better. |

The game is great!
I really liked the gameplay, and like you said: it plays like you would expect when you've seen the movie. The game did not hold much replay value for me, but it was good fun while it lasted. When you come across the game this cheap it's money well spent!

I just got it recently.. haven't been able to play it for more than 10 minutes at a time since I've gotten back in to WoW, but it is quite fun!
