What game should make it big?

Just posting a thread after Doom and Halo is making the Big screen and I'm wondering what other games you guys would like to make it to the big screen.

Here's my list:

Half Life
Someone mentioned that Charlie Sheen should play Freeman
http://www.planethalflife.com/featur...rdon/sheen.jpg

Mechwarrior/Mech Assault/Battletech/Warhammer
Those games has been around for awhile and is still pretty popular. There has been a attempt to create a tv series on Mechwarrior game but it failed miserably.

Starseige (The original one, not tribes)
The original game had excellent storyline and even had a history story that led up to the game itself

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
System Shock
Starcraft
Battlezone (Seriously, when the hell are they gonna bring that game back?)

hrandani 10-05-2005 10:11 PM

Warhammer 40k

(which inspired starcraft, btw)

RubenBaraja 10-06-2005 12:58 AM

Daikatana

:hmm:

Pragma 10-06-2005 04:33 AM

I'd go with Mechwarrior/Battletech - I've got dozens of the Battletech books on a shelf somewhere, they had some great storylines. You'd pretty much have to do it as a TV series though, I don't believe that a movie could ever fully realize the Battletech universe.

Randerolf 10-06-2005 07:48 AM

I really enjoyed the episodese on the Alpha Centauri site and the banter between the faction leaders. I'd like to see it be done. Sadly, the magic between games and film is often lost. Thus, the films turn out to be anemic and lackluster.

Wingless 10-06-2005 08:29 AM

You know it's only a matter of time until there's a Grand Theft Auto movie...

Just about any of the Final Fantasy games. I know there's Advent Children, but... that doesn't count. And the FF movie had awesome CG but, that doesn't count either.

RubenBaraja 10-06-2005 11:59 PM

Surely Medal of Honor is a big enough franchise to warrant a film tie-in.

An animated feature length Sam and Max would be good - the guy who owns the rights works at Pixar too apparently.

stevie667 10-07-2005 01:44 AM

Red Alert!

How cool would it be to see tesla coils and mammoth tanks?

Catdaddy33 10-07-2005 08:24 AM

I can't think of one movie based on a game that I liked. So I'd rather not see any game turned into a movie. I will say that some of the well written/scripted games might make a good movie (Half-Life comes to mind), but those are few and far between, not to mention that most games rip off whats already out there anyway...

Considering that Hollywood is running out of TV shows and comic books to make into movies, games seems to be the next logical step. What happened to originality?

Thats exactly where I was coming from.

MOH has its fans especially amongst the EA fanboys.

I am sure that guy that did HOTD and all the other film tie ins could work his magic :D

After seeing that picture, I'm gonna have to say Half Life as well... He looks just like Gordon Freeman.

Yea, and it was a damned good book. I'd love to see a movie adaptation of the book (not the movies). More Tom Clancy movies = better.

NHL '94
hands down. The Rock as Mark Messier. Topher Grace as Pavel Bure.

How about Max Payne. What ever happened to that movie? The Rock as Max Payne.

Or Duke Nukem? The Rock as Duke Nukem. Topher Grace as the renegade pig cop.

Or Metroid? The Rock as Samus Aran AND Ripley. Topher Grace as the voice of the ship's computer.

Or Super Smash Bros.? The Rock as Bowser. Topher Grace as Ness.

Or CastleVania? The Rock as the Castle. Topher Grace as Dracula.

Or River City Ransom? The Rock as Alex. Topher Grace as Merv.

Or The Legend of Zelda? The Rock as Gannon. Topher Grace as Link.

Or Katamari Damacy? The Rock as the King of all Cosmos. Topher Grace as the Prince.

Or Soul Calibur? The Rock as Mitsurigi. Topher Grace as Hwang.

Or Tetris? The Rock as the long block. Topher Grace as L-block.

Please include Bernie Mac as the bumbling sidekick in each of these movies. If unavailable, get Fred Savage or Tom Cruise's brother.

irateplatypus 10-09-2005 09:22 AM

how could you forget Banjo-Kazooie? The Rock as the gentle bear Banjo with little Topher Grace riding in his backpack as the ribald Kazooie? Cinematic gold.

or even Punch-Out!? Imagine The Rock as Bald Bull charging Little Mac (ably played by Topher Grace).

blar 10-09-2005 10:24 AM

parasite eve

devil may cry

t3m3st 10-09-2005 06:06 PM

irateplatypus knows how it works. Inevitable sequel, Banjo-Tooie, where we would introduce Lindsey Lohan.

I fucking love you; haven't laughed that hard all day, thanks :)

Coppertop 10-09-2005 08:46 PM

C'mon people, Platoon did not take place during WW2 and every school child knows that Max Payne is the videogame adaptation of Payback.

Or is that the other way around?

Kalibah 10-09-2005 08:56 PM

I think something like Splinter cell
then again I heard it was gonna be a movie so we shall see

too bad movie games generally suck... hopefully doom pulls through

t3m3st 10-09-2005 10:24 PM

Doom will fail only for its lack of Topher Grace

Catdaddy33 10-10-2005 04:47 AM

Topher Grace is a great actor!! I mean look at his performance in "Dude, Where's My Car?" oh wait...nevermind...nothing to see here...

Funny post t3m3st!

My Film Proposal

A Megaman movie would have to be called by it's Japanese name, Rockman. So The Rock as Rockman, with Topher Grace as the evil Dr. Wiley. There's room for like 8 sequels, right? Gilbert Godfried as Doctor Light. Rush would be R.U.S.H., a computer generated nuclear equipped walking battle tank, in the form of a giant red dog, voiced by Bernie Mac. This would be Rockman's main method of transportation. The story starts off with Dr. Wiley stealing Protoman from Dr. Light's lab. There will be many explosions. Protoman will be played by Sting. Then, Dr. Wiley makes the robot masters, Haley Joel Osment as CutMan, Gary Coleman as Coldman, John Travolta as FireMan, and Cedric the Entertainer as BombMan.

So the Robots destroy Rhode Island, and rename it Wiley Island. Rockman and R.U.S.H go there and destroy each Robot Master, but Wiley then pits him against Protoman for a final battle. Rockman is able to convince Protoman to not be evil after a massive fight that sinks half of Rhode Island. Wiley escapes. Protoman sings a few of his best songs, and the credits roll.

RockMan 2: Oceansphere Disaster!

This time, Wiley (Topher Grace) has decided to destroy the earth's water supply. He creates a new series of Robot Masters, including BubbleMan, played by William H. Macy, CrashMan, played by Dennis Hopper, Airman, played by Dennis Quaid, and WoodMan, played by one of those rappers the kids like to see.

BubbleMan creates a giant bubble from all of the earth's oceans, leaving the earth dry. Rockman flies out to invistigate in R.U.S.H., but is met in Chicago by the Robot Masters. They have all taken parts of the city to call their own, and Rockman must bust some heads. This time he's not alone. Dr. Light created a sister for RockMan, played by Halle Berry, named Roll. Roll will fight some robot masters until she is inevitably kidnapped by Wiley. Then Rockman must save her. However, he must choose whether to save his sister, or stop the bubble containing the earth's oceans from floating into space. This reveals a Rockman OS security flaw that gives Rockman the "Blue screen of Death". Dr. Light sends RockMan out for service, and 4-6 weeks later, he comes back to find that Wiley has constructed a floating fortress near the bubble in the sky. He attacks the fortress and finds Roll. Escape is not so easy, because Roll is guarded by Wiley's newest creating, Bass (Lance Bass)! Bass and Rockman have a massive battle that ends up popping the bubble and sends all the water back to earth. It appears that Rockman is going to lose the battle,
so Roll calls Protoman to help. Protoman sneaks in and starts singing, and Bass is forced to join in. This duet gives Rockman and Roll time to escape. Credits roll, the end.

Gary_the_Rat 10-10-2005 09:44 AM

Quake 3! Yeah, sarge is played by... oh well no that won't work at all.

Sanitarium would be good.
Shenmue would be good.
Starship Titanic might yet be made.

t3m3st 10-10-2005 12:55 PM

Mega64's Shenmue was great! Should be a full reality show.

"Would you like to play a game of lucky hit?"
"No, that's alright man."
"Would you like to play a game of lucky hit?"

and later,
"I'm looking for the man who killed my father"

genius

Wingless 10-11-2005 10:28 AM

"I'm looking for sailors"

"Do you know where I can find some sailors?"

"Are there any sailors around here?"

Zyr 10-11-2005 03:20 PM

Someone mentioned hitman: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/625/625732p1.html
Quote:

Vin Diesel will star as Agent 47 in the game-to-film adaptation of Hitman...
Also, they should make a God Of War movie. Also with Vin Diesel.

777 10-11-2005 03:40 PM

Castlevania

And here's how we'll pitch it to the movie studios: "Let's make a movie about a guy who slays vampires with a whip, and now he's out for Dracula!"

Lwang9276 10-11-2005 03:49 PM

theres already a parasite eve movie.. kinda old and japanese i believe.. saw it one night on hbo lol.. hmm i think a starcraft one would be crazy but i think starship troopers is kinda like starcraft just missing the toss.. but hmm i think half-life would be great especially with charlie sheen lol

Reese 10-12-2005 01:59 AM

Parasite Eve was a movie in Japan before it was a video game. The movie is based on a novel and the first game is a sequel to the same novel. I liked the movie and try to watch it whenver it comes on tv.

After playinjg God of War for the last few hours I think it'd make one hell of a movie. Actually, I don't care if it's God of War or Jason and the Argonauts, I just think that genre needs to return.

hulk 10-12-2005 02:36 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen, Shenmue the movie.

For those not initiated with Mega64 ;) Buy the DVD!

MichaelFarker 10-12-2005 03:30 AM

On Doom movie, John Carmack at ID said
"I was basically hoping to myself, 'please just don't let it be miserable.'"
"if it doesn't embarrass us, it's going to be just fine with me."
"I would have probably liked it better if they could have actually played up that these were supposed to be demons from Hell - the movie is actually more science fiction."
"Doom was intentionally designed to offend early on, and they probably just did not want to go that route"
(Interview in October 2005 Game Informer Magazine)
