Building a MAME: Need A Cabinet - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I saw thecow's thread about his awesome MAME unit, but sadly, I lack the skillz to actually build a cabinet like that from scratch myself. I could give it a shot, but I'll hold onto that thought as a last resort. I was hoping to find a trashed upright cabinet and refurbish it. I'm currently looking at some hot prospects, but I was wondering if the TFP can help out? If anyone knows of or has an old cabinet for cheap, I'd love to hear from you.

I live in the Southern California area and I'm willing to drive up to 400 miles one way to pick it up, if the price is right. I'm an illustrator and graphic designer by trade and would be willing to do some artwork in exchange as well.

I have my eye on a bunch on e-bay. Good suggestion with craigslist.

I was just hoping some TFPer may have an inside track on something like this. Doesn't hurt to ask.

You might look at the design here http://blurbco.com/~gork/mamecab , and see if thats something that looks good to you. My friends and I built these for our entertainment pleasure. We have built about 3 total. If you like it, I can send you the specs to build them. Remember, we're not woodsmen or carpenters, and ours came out fine, as long as you go slowly and check your work.

The picture on that page is our end result, but there are concept and build pictures on the site.

wow, bendsley. Those are some killer cabinets. Sadly, my tools cannot stack up to what you all have. The only power tool to my name is a jigsaw.

I think I have a good lead on someone nearby that will sell one or more old cabinets for a reasonable price. But I'll still check back here if someone has an offer I can't refuse.
