An idea for the launch of nintendo revolution

Ok this idea just came to me and I felt like I needed to share it.

One thing that really irks me about console launches is they never come with a game right at launch so you have to shell out 50 more bucks to able to use your new console.

If I remember correctly, the original NES came with mario and duck hunt. So I was thinking Revolution should come with Mario 128 (assuming it will be on Revolution and not cube) and it should include an updated duck hunt with an updated gun controller.

What do you guys think? Is it a good idea or it unrealistic? Do you think consoles should come with a game?

personally, i'd love it if that became the business model again... but i'm not holding my breath.

when they're sold separately the "price of admission" drops dramatically. a lot of people simply don't put that much thought into their purchases... so buying a console for $199 seems like a better deal initially than one for $239 with a pack-in game. witness the add-on strategy when the PSP releases here soon. to get the most value out of the product you buy you're forced to get a game, memory stick, earphones, protective case, USB data cable etc. in order to fully use the system you buy for a steep price anyway. not commenting on the value of the purchase... just that it's more palatable to a consumer to think of these things are separate purchases rather than committing to one giant one.

i'm betting the revolution launches with a game sampler disc... mario 64 sold nearly 1:1 with the n64 on its launch. nintendo would probably make much better margins on the software if they charged the full $50 separately anyway.

^ yeah... profits are the main goal of the companies now. But damn I yearn for the days when it seemed like the companies like Nintendo put out games and systems for the pure joy of losing oneself in another world...

not a fan of the guns, just another thign you have to buy. I'd like for it to come with a game, even if it means paying like 20 more bucks, cuz at lleast you get a little discount

If you wait a couple of weeks(from launch), most major retailers will offer a bundle where you get either a game or a controller for free. Not quite what you meant, but...

Yeah I guess you guys are right, it just really annoys me that I have to spend $200 + dollars for the new console and can't even really use it unless I shell out another $50. I really wish nintendo would use there old buisness model with the new technology.

P.S where the hell is a new Bionic Commando game? That game was incredible.

I always wait till they release a bundle for this same reason.

And yes, that would be awesome to have a new Bionic Commando game.

i'd be HAPPY to only spend $200 + $50 for the next-gen consoles... but you know the consoles themselves will at least be over $300 and come with only one controller and no memory card.

so add all that up ($300 for console + $30 for a second controller + $25 for a memory card + $50 x # of games) and you're easily looking at $400-$500 just to get started with 1-3 games and a new system... and that's just the cost for the people lucky enough to not have to pay over retail prices at the initial release of the system!

stop the insanity!!

Ahh, memory cards! I forgot about those. Thank you, Playstation/Dreamcast for giving console manufacturers another way to milk us for money. Plus, they launch with the tiny card that holds about 10 saves, and then 3 months later there's the card that holds 8 times as much. Why? Why not earlier...

I think to an extent we all want to feel like we did back when we got the first Nintendo with Super Mario Bros. Unfortunately, those days are long gone and nothing can bring them back. We're all old now, and death's sweet embrace is the only thing I look forward to

Bundles are great for the consumer, but as mentioned above, it seems like selling separately yields greater profit margins, and that's the bottom line for the capitalist pigs.

Well isn't Nintendo losing the console war right now. This could be a marketing ploy to sell more Revolutions. What person over the age of 20 wouldn't want an updated Duck Hunt. Once the console sells well they just need to keep providing quality games.

As much as I love the Cube , I would say that right now the big N has lost the console war.

You would say that, but you'd be wrong. It's well and truly tied with the X-Box, with the latest A-release deciding who's just winning out in worldwide sales. It's minor in most of the western world, but it has often had higher sales than the PS2 on a weekly basis in Japan.
