So apparently they made Doom into a movie...

Yeah.

It seems The Rock plays the Sarge. This pretty much ruins the movie for me, but I guess he's the new cheesy-as-fuck action hero. Hopefully the movie does the game justice, but I have this nagging fear that the movie will be horse shit that has been shit out of a horse and then eaten again and then shit out again.

As seems to be the case with most games turned movie.

I haven't been able to find any pics or trailers yet. Anyone know anything about this movie?

SVT01Cobra 03-12-2005 10:37 PM

Hey now, I liked the Resident Evil movies. :)

0energy0 03-12-2005 10:53 PM

This movie has to be really really violent and gruesome, because when I play...let's just say I overachieve.

Resident Evil was not made exactly like the game. It doesn't follow any of the games specifically, like either 1, 2, or 3...

Ace_O_Spades 03-13-2005 12:04 AM

http://imdb.com/title/tt0419706/

It's going to be a pile of crap.

Doesn't take place on mars, there aren't any demons, and they aren't space marines who are fighting.

Those are the only elements you would need to make it a passable Doom movie, instead it's just going to suck ass.

Carno 03-13-2005 12:36 AM

WTF???

Seriously, I am speechless... How the fuck can you have a Doom movie THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DOOM???

That movie is an abomination.

FailedEagle 03-13-2005 01:16 AM

Here's the news . . . Firstly It has been completed and is going to be Released on August 9th. As far as I can tell there has been one picture released http://comingsoon.net/nextraimages/firstdoom.jpg

Here's an interview from the Rock about it.

Quote:

From Doom you can expect an unapologetic rated-R movie that pulls no punches and just like what the video game was able to do in terms of its violence – but not violence for the sake of violence."

"I'm playing the commanding officer who, without ruining it for everyone, turns bad, which is great. I'm so excited about that movie, I'll tell you why. Number one, it's my first rated-R movie and it's a very unapologetic rated-R movie. Not only that, but the monsters are real, they're not CGI. They're made by Stan Winston who did Jurassic Park and Predator and all that. So the monster's got weight and when they’re in a scene they're like Aliens! I get to transform and become, I'm going to tell you this right now, the BMFOTP. Know what that means? It means the baddest motherfucker on the planet
Another earlier quote from The Rock,

Quote:

The Rock tells John that he just finished taping the movie Doom and it is now entering post production. He actually plays the main title character in the film. The flick is funny, but it is rated R, as it is unapologetic, like the game. He loves blowing stuff up. He recalls the actor who said he doesn't like to use guns or blow things up, but Rock says he's not like that. He loves using powerful weapons He gets to use a bio force gun in the movie and the letters "BFG" is actually written on the big friggin' gun. So he had a great time doing that movie
That's it for now, If I can find more later, will pass it on, but shouldn't this be under entertainment?

Peace

mazagmot 03-13-2005 10:20 AM

I can't wait for one more game movie that has so very little to do with the game it licensed.

lindseylatch 03-13-2005 04:34 PM

What's with the word "unapologetic"? what do they mean by that? That they don't care that it's rated-R? Who does care if their movie is R-rated? Or does it just look good in print?

TexanAvenger 03-13-2005 04:47 PM

Things like this make me scared that they're gonna move in on Halo next...

The rights are already sold buddy. Nothing official on the cast yet, but the producer said he wanted to use Samuel Jackson for Johnson and Ed Harris as Cpt. Keyes.

Slavakion 03-13-2005 05:33 PM

I'd love to see a Doom movie. But this is terrible news. I need to go shoot something virtual now. :(

And I believe I heard that Master Chief will be played by Steve Buscemi. They aren't going to have the movie revolve around the game, it will actually be a biography on M.C. Not to mention that Liv Tyler will play his love that he has to leave behind.

Oh and don't forget the new WWII movie based on BF1942... its about the stories of the infantry soldiers who spawn camped and teamkilled people trying to steal their planes

begforme2 03-13-2005 06:52 PM

It's pretty much guaranteed that any movie based on a video game is gonna suck. The best movie made from a video game is resident evil, and even that wasn't too great.

Carno 03-13-2005 06:58 PM

lol.... i r stupid :p

I'm pretty sure his post was a joke, lol. Thats how I took it at least.

Dude, there's tons of good movies made from video games:

Tomb Raider
Mortal Kombat
Mario Bros

to name just a few... jeez

 ;)

Rdr4evr 03-13-2005 10:49 PM

what videogame movie actually has anything to do with the game? they don't learn either, movie after movie, they make up their own bullshit plot and expect the name to sell their pile of garbage, and movie after movie it fails. look at resident evil and house of the dead for recent examples. if for once they actually produce the movie based on the game (astonishing concept  ) they might be successful, but until then, they will continue to be piles of shit. the only movie based on game that i actually thouroughly enjoyed was MK1...and that stayed true to the game for the most part.

Mr.Deflok 03-14-2005 12:12 AM

The rights to a Halo movie haven't been sold, Bungie said that the only way the movie could be made is if the director of the original Alien (Ridley Scott) helmed the feature.

Eight 03-14-2005 02:52 AM

Hmm sounds like a load of rubbish.

The Rock in Doom? Hmmm certainly gives it the "cheesy factor" :(

At least its not Ben Affleck.

Gabbyness 03-14-2005 05:30 AM

I thought, to be honest, that "Mortal Kombat" was the best movie based on a game. It wasn't awesome, but I thought it was at least enjoyable and stayed relatively true to the game.

What about Wing Commander?! Wing Commander the Movie was AWESOME!@(!$@

Well, maybe it's a difference of opinion in what a "good" movie is, but I didn't think any of those were all that good.

Tomb Raider was bearable, but cheesy as all hell.

Me thinks he was joking as well Carn.

Gabbyness 03-14-2005 01:53 PM

Nobody else liked Mortal Kombat? I guess it was high on the cheese factor.

=(!

The first Mortal Kombat movie I didn't like. Too much crappy storyline and not enough action.

However, the second Mortal Kombat movie I thoroughly enjoyed. I could turn off my brain, enjoy the special effects, and ignore the bad storyline. Just like I did with the video games.
