Favourite FPS game
Yes i know the old favourite FPS game thread
What is your favourite FPS game of all time and why? Mine is Battlefield 1942.. best of its kind. Battlefield Vietnam was like a piece of dog poo compared to it. Great maps vehicles and physics and still a great game now |
Metroid Prime! If you've tryed it, then you'll understand why it's such a great FPS (First Person Scanner) :)
Probably Battlefield Vietnam. BF 1942 was awesome, especially the Desert Combat mod, but it got old after Vietnam came out. Vietnam's infanfry aspect is better in every way, shape, or form than 1942's. The only aspects that 1942 excelled in were slightly more memorable maps and a much stronger emphasis on vehicular combat. Like I said, I was tired of vehicular, hence me becoming obsessed with Vietnam.

Socom 2 for PS2. It's been out for a year and a half now, and I still am in a clan with over 30 people. I probably still play it 15 hours a week. Oh, I'm talking about the online play where you are fighting up to 15 other real people.
I can't seem to drag myself away from Joint Operations at the moment.
Who'd have thought launching a speed boat up a ramp into a chinook, taking off and hovering over the ocean then tipping the boat out of the back and hopping on as it plummets could be so addicitve? The game's just full of really cool moments and potential stunts like these. You never know what's going to happen when you join a game |
Good old fashioned Tribes. There was nothing quite as fun as filling up an HPC with a bunch of heavy armor guys, then crashing it into a turret.
Oh yes, and constants spammings of 'shazbot!'. |
Unreal Tournament 2004 definitely. It just has so many game modes to pick from, tons of weapons and vehicles, and plenty of mods too.
Well, this isn't a classic FPS, but Deus Ex occupies the top slot in my book. It was really the first game that I played heavily on a computer and I loved it. I've beaten it at least 6 times and done so with a different skill set every time. I can't ask for more than great, varied gameplay and awesome replay value. I kind of wish they'd given a bit more flexibility of choices earlier in the game instead of just the three different endings, but hey.
Doom 1 y'all. I've probably never played a video game for as much time as i spent on the original doom.
Half Life 1 hands down (haven't played 2 yet). It is the only FPS I actually played through more than 5 times, and I could probably do it all over again even this many years after it's release. I also loved the first Turok on N64.
wwii Online is hands down the best virtual battlefield ever!
Joint operations though is pretty damn sweet too! |
havent played to many fpss myslef but from what i have played i am stuck on Halo. *havnet gotten to halo 2 yet).
I agree with Lasereth 100%...BFVietnam is just awesome.
Single Player: Half Life 2. Why? Ravenholme and the gravity gun! Plus oodles of other aspects of the game that speak for themselves.
Multiplayer: A tie between Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat. I like them both, but I'm better at Day of Defeat so I play it more. :D |
Speaking of Day of Defeat, when does DoD source finally come out?!?
Oh, and yes, Day of Defeat gets my vote. |
Well, if you would've asked me two years ago I would have said BF1942. But tastes change and some people get put on the Punkbuster blocklist for erronious reasons. Right now I'm addicted to FarCry since I just got a card that would run it (BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC), but UT2k4 is still my fav. I plan on getting HL2 at some point as well. But that's just PC. I have an XBOX, just like most male college students. I also have only two games for it: Halo and Halo 2.
Deux Ex, Half-Life 1 and 2, Counter-Strike Source, Battlefield 1942 with the Forgotten Hope and XWW2 (Experience World War 2) mods, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 (PC version, Xbox version was too dumbed down), Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D.
QUAKE 3, fuckin oath. Aint nothing quite as lightning fast ball-bustingly intense as the ol' Q3A.
right now it is Halo 2. but if i had to choose the best FPS of all time... for me it would be Doom 2. i played that game so freaking much. one of the best, and most influential, games of all time.
for its time: goldeneye (n64)
now: team fortress... i kick it old school :) |
ah hell, how I forgot about goldeneye is beyond me, add that to my top three for sure. the hours i spent with that masterpiece...the memories.
I'd say Deus Ex, due to its outstanding (at the time) graphics and interesting plot. Of course, my answer may change if I ever play Half Life 2.
good to see all the bf42ers still like it as it is a pretty old game
deus ex 1 no doubt
Unreal Tournament. I still play it from time to time today. Nothing can top the maps Morpheus and Face. You can do capture the flag, assault, team, or free for all. This was like the first FPS I ever played with decent AI and you can play multiplayer. I have hundreds of hours playing this. Best gun is the flask cannon and my favorite to use is the sniper. So great!!!

HL2, meaning all it's mods as well, which will include DoD etc. :o
Tribes 2... I played that game so much it's kinda spooky :hmm:
Killzone for PS2 Online
I like Socom2 also, But don't really play that online |
Starsiege:Tribes was amazing. Seems like some games have taken a step back as far as gameplay goes.
HL2/DM/CS
I don't know why, but I'm addicted to Deathmatch more than anything. |
Half-Life 2 is one great game. UT2K4 is another favorite of mine, but it is nothing compared to Half-Life 2.
Well Im a MOHAA fan big time and with the mods out there I have a hard time not playing
and I like BF1942 DC |
I'm quite addicted to Call of Duty right now, completely for the multiplayer online aspect, however.
Console multiplayer is a toss-up between Halo 2 and Goldeneye/64. Single-player PC goes to Doom 1. Classic, classic, classic. |
Red Orchestra mod for UT2K4 has to be the best WW2 online shooter I have ever played. I also liked Deus Ex and Half Life 2.
Marathon Trilogy, you can't beat the original kings ;)
Singleplayer = Half-Life 2 or FarCry, cannot decide which
Multiplayer = Team Fortress, Ghost Recon, Raven Shield or AvP |

ditto' that iddqd idkfa ;) |
goldeneye, I played this game way too much for my own good. I beat the single player 100% and then many more hours multiplayer with friends.
Halflife 2 single player ruled, so did goldeneye. For multiplayer Cs would have to be the winner for me sadly, however i am developing a love for hl2dm
Action Quake 2. A perfect marriage of movement physics and map design.
Half-life 2, source will rule the internet soon, fear the day
Joint Ops is my Game Du Jour right now......but Far Cry, 1943, and CSII can all keep me playing vids through to 4am any night of the week
By CSII do you mean Counter-Strike: Source?
DAMN, I can't believe I forgot about Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. I love both, but prefer PD over 007 simply because of the multiplayer. 4 People with bots and homing rocket launchers = AWESOME.
Any one except Halo 1,2. lol.
Best ever would be HL 2. I loved it. |
Far Cry. Best graphics I've seen in some time and great AI.
UT2K4's demo alone made me play for hours on end....its so great to chop a guy's body up with one of those hovering vehicles....and the raptor...omg. so much fun.

Definitely. Halo can bite me |
Halflife 1 And 2 Followed closly by doom 2. :D LOL DOOM.
Halo is definately my most favorite fps of all time. I love Halo, but not as much as i love free french fries. And i'm a man who loves his free french fries.
Quake III Arena, I find Halo to be a little dry.
Yeah quake 3 was pretty good, but it didn't come with free french fries
Depends on whay type of FPS (Single or Multi)
Single player, hmm has to be Deus EX or Far Cry. Multiplayer, hard choice, I've played loads to death but I think it would be in this order - Joint operations (and add on) Call of Duty Return to Castel Wolfenstein BF:V BF1942 Raven Shield Quake 2 Rocket Arena :) Maybe some others :) |
Half-life 2 is the most impressive game I have ever played. For raw FPS deathmatch of the old school, one-on-one its got to be Quake 3 with CPM.
Halo was *fun*, but crap. Like Hollywood. |
I think my personal favorites would be the original Rainbow Six for PC, and UT. Played them both a ton more than any other fps I have been into, including HL1 and 2.
I'm a big DoD fan though, waiting for Source to come out. |
One more vote for Half Life 2. There's nothing else like it, as far as I know.
Unreal Tournament. When i was 14 I played the demo and ended up competing online and becoming one of the top 3 1v1 duelers in the country. I placed 3rd at a National qualifier for the 2001 World Cyber Games in LA, and got flown to South Korea to compete against an international player pool for a 30,000$ first place prize. That time is over now, in college and all, but I still love that game. Counter-strike is good too.
www.gotfrag.com www.esreality.com www.cached.net www.thecpl.com Gaming is going professional, check it out. |
Half-Life 2: Counter-Strike Source, has to be the best fps based close/far range combat. I play this game at least 3 to 4 hours everyday.
Best FPS Game: Medal Of Honor Allied Assault!
Any of the original dooms and of course Goldeneye for the N64.
Goldeneye for N64, SLAPS ONLY!!
