Not quite sure if this is Taboo around here...Xbox ???
Alright I think its time I break down and get myself one of these systems. Xbox seems like the way to go based on graphics and technology. Here comes the taboo part: I want to get an xbox but i want to mod is with a chip and HDD. So here are some questions for those willing to answer and help me out.
1) What kinda Xbox should I get? New? Old? Used? 2) Whats the best mod chip out there that allows the most functionality? (im not afraid to sodder or mod in anyway) 3) Ive read that Xbox live doesnt work for modded people and ive heard of others who say theirs works just fine...whats the deal with that? Will modded work with Kai? The main purpose of this is to help pass some time with friends or by myself because im on the road for 6 months outta the year. In terms of gaming and stuff Im not too concerned with Xbox's selection over PS2. Im just looking for something i can load a ton of games onto so I can take it with me and have some fun with it. Ive been reading www.xbox-scene.com and trying to get some info, but I still had some questions. Hope i didnt cross any lines...if so, please PM me. Thanks for all the help! |

1) None! Hehe, just kiddin'. If you can find a decent used one, go for it. Consoles aren't like computers, most older ones run fine for years. Not entirely sure on the specifics of the X-Box, but any system, if it's in decent condition, should be right. They all include the HD, too.
2) Dunno about mod chips, I don't like them myself. 3) If X-Box live detects illegal modifications, it'll lock you out. Pretty simple. I don't think you can copy games as-is, though, so in your case it looks like you'll be getting a mod in. That should answer some of it, maybe someone more into illegal stuff can help out more :P

Hmm... you could try this. You'll need the original MechAssault, a memory card with a special save on it (either from a friend or you'd need a modded xbox. Which would defeat the whole purpose.), and some programs/data.
Pretty much, you put the mech save on your HD, run mech, and run the save. It'll launch Evo-X, and you go from there. Luck. Oh, and this way is currently invisible to Xbox live. When it goes to 2.0, nobody knows. M$ has to know about this exploit by now. |

If you don't already have an XBox and want to get one and mod it, the easiest (and safest) route is to buy a pre-modded XBox. There are a ton of vendors out there.
Check out http://www.teamxecuter.com/ for more info.

But watch yerself, a shop selling modded consoles with preloaded games just got raided in Washington. Two people arrested for Conspiracy to Peform Copyright Infringment, IIRC.

1. It doesn't really matter. But if you get a v1.6 (or 1.6b) xbox, it takes some more soldering and you'll need a special type of bios for the xbox. There's been many complaints about the bios for 1.6 xboxs. I don't have a 1.6 xbox so I don't know how true these complaints are. I'm not sure if there's a bios out for the 1.6b xboxs yet. I suppose you're better off buying a used xbox b/c it's cheaper and you may be more unlikely to get a 1.6 xbox.
2. Any of the new modchips out are good, Xenium, Xecuter 3, SmartXX. Xecuter 3 has more features, but generally cost about $10 more than the other chips. I have a Xenium and have no complaints. 3. Going on Live with a chip (as long as the chip is off) is somewhat questionable but most likely safe. Team Xecuter believes in the "marriage theory" (explained here - http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/...EFqmSCCwfD.php ), and if that is true (which it probably is), Live won't be a problem. Kai works great with a modded xbox as some programs (XBox Media Center) have some features for Kai (never tried it out though, sorry I can't provide details). Hope this helps. Installing a modchip is fairly easy so you won't be getting your hands too dirty. |
