Xbox Live Troubleshoot
I got live today and tried to set it up and it says that it won't connect, so I went through all the troubleshooting things that it does, it gets my IP address and all that jazz, but still won't connect. I'm in a dorm, and my internet connection is good, anyone care to help me?

Nope, no password required, I e-mailed the on-campus service provider and a lady wrote me back a message that said:
"We do not offer ethernet connections for Xbox or PS2 at this time. Thank you." Is that possible, shouldn't just an internet connection be enough? |

Your in the dorm that is the problem right there. I had that problem last year, one of the main reasons I moved out. The school is blocking a required port that the XBOX needs to connect to live servers. Solution? Yes, there is one. It was kinda dumb luck, but I bought the XBOX Wireless router (long story) well all you need is a Wireless Hub to connect into and the Wireless router for XBOX and you are in business. Now I am not saying this will work for everyone, but it did for me. Because of how Wireless connections work it routes its signal through a different port that is generally open. Good luck!

The wireless solution works? odd.
anyway, your internet connection only uses the standard web ports like 80, 443, 22, and 110/25 for some email services. I don't know right off what port the xbox uses but this is obviously blocked at the router for the dorm. |
