Sales for HL2 & CS:Source go on sale today.

Today on www.steampowered.com Valve will be finally releasing their product for sale. While this does not include Hl2 its self, it will give you Counter-strike:Source to fully play. HL2 will be released to you upon when Vivendi Universal decides to actually try to make money.

Why is valve doing this? Many have rumored to think its a jab at VU since they are delaying Valves product even longer then it needs to be.

What does this mean you will get? A receipt, and a game dl. No actual CD / DVD. Steam uses a internet downloadable package based game. You can aquire the game online anywhere, as long as your have a steam account with a CD-Key to match it.

I personally will be buying Silver. I find Gold to be a complete waste of money.

Today at 11 am PST, the Half-Life 2 Steam offers will be ready for
purchase. Those who purchase via Steam, will receive the final version of Counter-Strike: Source immediately. Half-Life 2 and other games in the Steam offerings will be made available to purchasers upon their release.

ATI/Half-Life 2 bundle owners may redeem their product key for the Bronze offer or apply their key toward the purchase of either the Silver or Gold offers, receiving a credit equal to the price of the Bronze offer.

Also tomorrow, the Counter-Strike: Source beta will close. Valve would like to thank the thousands of gamers who participated in the beta and helped make it a success.

bronze it is, the rest of the stuff doesnt seem to special to me

the_marq 10-07-2004 10:53 AM

Wha? I'm confused. When can I just go to the store and plunk down my $60 for HL:2?

Destrox 10-07-2004 11:32 AM

the_marq : bronze is "hl2" normal

hl2's multiplayer is now officially Counter-Strike

and walla, I have now officially purchased HL2 silver. :D I'm so happy atm, its hard to describe it.

I made a video for ya's. :)

11 meg, divx

mkultra 10-07-2004 12:27 PM

Destrox- Thanks for the video.

I'm really torn, I want to play CS:S really badly, but I also want a physical copy of the game. Damn Vivendi, and damn the lawyers.

OK that almost clears it up for me. Thanks.

One more question tho: The references to "source" in Silver and Gold; that's the source code right? Most users like me would have zero use for something like that. I mean, I already have HL and Day of Defeat, so all I need is bronze?

I hope you don't mind answering my questions, it's just easier to ask someone who understands rather than try to hack thru the marketing fluff.

No, Source is the new physics engine.

Its Hl1 with the new engine, and DOD (a really cool mod) with the source engine.

the back-catalog is all other Steam based games. (CS, CS:condition zero, cs:z:deleted scenes , Hl1, DOD, Ricochet, etc)
it also comes with the dedicated server for normal and source.

also I've been playin css for about 2 hours now, its far better then normal cs.

I just purchased the silver package.

My only worry is that vendi will drag this along time in court but I'm hoping they'll see that as a bad pub already on top of a nightmare involving HL2.

I'm not too worried about it, actually.

I think VALVe just kicked their ass by releasing CS:S to the public, for those who bought HL2 over Steam.

The longer Vivendi waits, the more people will want a taste of the Source engine, the more people will buy HL2 over Steam to play CS:S immediately, which ends up in less retail sales for Vivendi.

Source is the game engine, Havoc is the Physics engine.

I bought silver. I am VERY pleased with it... after seeing how much they improved the game with the same maps has me VERY eager to start playing HL2.

Hercules 10-08-2004 06:41 PM

I bought gold... CS:Source has been great so far.
Some bugs with physics objects and getting stuck on them, but replicating that online is very hard.

usrbinboy 10-08-2004 08:45 PM

is counterstrike free at all anymore?

whiplash13 10-08-2004 08:54 PM

Been playing CS for over 5 years now. Haven't purchased CS:S yet but will some time this weekend. I can only hope it has half the success of its predicessor. CS is only free to those that own halflife.

MrFlux 10-08-2004 08:55 PM

It comes free with Half-Life 2... so essentially, yes.

blar 10-09-2004 02:54 PM

i would get it but my computer can't handle it
