Recommended RPG's

I'm a big fan of RPG's especially online rpgs. And i'm looking for a new one to play with having some extra spare time now. So any recommendations to a good one. And im not really looking for a pay to play mmorpg either.

And ive tried d2 before you recommend it

Thanks for your help :)

Get the Baldur's Gate Series. Baldur's Gate and its expansion Tales of the Sword Coast, and Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn and its expansion The Throne of Bhaal.

Also check ou the two Icewind Dale games, as well as the expansions.

Planescape Torment is an awesome RPG, get that if you can still find it.

I forgot to add: The Baldur's Gate series is the best damn RPGs you will ever find for the PC.

Nothing else comes close.

Knigths of the Old Republic is also very good, if you don't mind it being starwars. Its a damn fine RPG as well.

If you have an XBox pick up Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind GOTY Edition. No online play, but you can play the game for months (literally) and never do the same thing twice.

If you have a PC, pick it up but don't forget the expansion packs.

Yes, BG and BGII are the best single palyer RPGs ever written, but they absolutely suck when it comes to multi-player.

My recommendation is Neverwinter Nights. The single player official campaign is just okay, but the FREE online play can't be beat. The fan base is huge and some of the fan built mods are even better then the BioWare built stuff. BUT... the pinicle of the whole shooting match is DMed games. Other than Vampire the Masquerade, there has been no other game that allows for a Dungeon Master to control things from behind the scenes. It's like no other gaming experince I have ever had. Once you get hooked you will never want to play another RPG again.

Official Neverwinter Nights Site: http://nwn.bioware.com/

In order to make the Neverwinter live up to all this, you really need to be a member at Neverwinter Connections. It gives the players the ability to schedule games so that you can run a whole module with the same players/characters. Here is the game page for my current campaign... http://www.neverwinterconnections.co...e/id/15391.htm. I figure this campaign will take over 150 hours in weekly session to complete, and will take the characters from 1st level to +20th level.

Also, check out the NWCon 2.5 page: http://www.neverwinterconnections.co...on/showcon.htm. This is the twice yearly online convention hosted at NWConnections. All the games must be either "open" or "application" and they regularly host IRC Seminars and In-Game Seminars.

As far as content, there is more stuff at the Neverwinter Vault then you could ever play in a life time. Go to the module index and you will see what I'm talking about: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/moduleslist2.shtml. I can't even guess as to how many module are posted to the vault. Needless to say, you will NEVER run out of stuff to play.

Finally... all this is FREE once you buy the game. In all honesty, I haven't even thought about buying a game since I got into NWN. Now, granted, I'm an old school D&D player from my early childhood, so I'm a bit partial to the ruleset and setting. I just can't see the attraction of Pay to Play.

Check it out, you might just find what you are looking for.

They're also developing a fourth one as we speak. :D

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

I'll second Morrowind, but it takes a little getting used to. Neverwinter Nights is incredible and so is KOTOR, especially NWN though. NWN took up a lot of my time, KOTOR was kind of straight through.

I would also recommend Xenogears and FF7 if you haven't played them. They are both for the original playstation, but they are both probably the best rpg's ever.

Chrono Trigger is good if you can get an emulator, its a good game and its free.

p.s. If you haven't played the Twilight Mod for NWN you are really missing out, its amazing.

Wow, this is a great list... and I'd have to agree...

PC

Single Player:
Baldur's Gate (and Tales of the Sword Coast)
Baldur's Gate 2 (and Shadows of Amn)
Icewind Dale (not so much ID2)
Planescape: Torment (if you like Scifi/Fantasy mixed genre)
Neverwinter Nights (plus the two expansion packs)

MMO:
Dark Age of Camelot
Starwars Galaxies
Ultima Online
(soon, Everquest II and World of Warcraft will be out... both look to be very good)

Xbox:

Fable
Knights of the Old Republic (quick, before II comes out)
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
Morrowind

Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate, Morrowind, Deus Ex, and Icewind Dale are all very good.
