Thats exactly the kind of portable I want. About the power of a PS1, backlit screen, rechargable battery. What more could you ask for?
Nintendo is probably trembling.

Cannot wait. Is it too early to stand in line?

I doubt Nintendo is trembling..It's good to see Sony trying to prevent piracy running rampant on this thing.Sure you can rip a rom off a cart, but it's a heck of a lot harder to rip a cd or propietary media for joe average comnsumer (see: gamecube emulation scene). All in all some competiton could be a good thing.

This is all so preliminary. I don't believe concept, I believe reality.
What concerns me the most is, with all these little doo-hickeys, and nick-nacks they're putting on it, will it; a) Have a battery life of, oh, 10 minutes? b) Be so massive and clunky, you'll need an attachement to play it? And, of course, no system is complete without games. I don't care if this thing can launch a shopping cart to the moon. If it doesn't have anything worth playing, I ain't buying. And I seriously doubt Nintendo will be trembling in their boots. They'd be more likley to be annoyed that they don't have complete market dominance. And even if they lose their first rank standing, they'll still be making millions of dollars off the GameBoy. Somehow, I doubt that's a reason for concern.

But Nintendo should be scared...
This isn't the only new handheld coming out in the states. Two have been announced by other companies:
Tapwave's system Helix portable gaming device unveiled Not the Only Game Boy in Town Nokia's gaming system N-Gage Pricing Revealed N-GAGE @ E3 With everyone throwing their hat into the ring someone is going to be taking profits from Nintendo's only major source of income. The gamecube is failing and the gameboy line is nintendo's bread and butter. Why else was the gameboy advance sp released?

sony game from no where to market domininace with the psone they can do it again, anyone who thinks sony doesn't know they need games to ship with the system to make it sell, isn't thinking it through, sony have lots of A+ titles to get moved onto the system, plus its possible for it to emulate psone games.so their
might be a release on the newer media. the ngage and the others are no threats, its too expensive, oddly designed and weak performance. gp32 is buggy and not well supported, tapwave is an unknown. i think theyll get the battery life on par with the sp. |
