Anyone ever have trouble finishing games?
I don't know what it is, but probably about 75% of the games I own (PC or Xbox) I have never finished...
What usually happens is I'll forget to save for a long ass time then I'll die and have to start all the way over. I always just smash something in disgust and go find something else to do.. Or I'll play the game for hours at a time for days, and then one day I won't feel like playing it anymore. And then I never want to go back and finish the game.. I'll just move on to something else. Most of the time I'll only be about an 1/8 of the way through. This really pisses me off, but I always just seem to lose interest.. Do yall ever lose interest in games? |
Most of the time I get games cheap, play em halfway, then let em sit for a while. Then one day when I'm bored with all my games I'll go over to my stash and think "Hmm...I remember in this game I could behead 5 enemies if they were lined up right...Maybe I could do 10..." and I end up playing it all the way through then.
Some games I just never finish, Final Fantasy X, Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid 2, Viewtiful Joe. Be it a new game comes out, or I just tire of the gameplay. |
Never. I always finish was I start :)
|
All my life I have done this, and I dont see my self changing.
I play till the fun is gone, then wait a few months and play it again. Long as I enjoy the time spent playing, its ok. |
I have MEdal of Honor: Frontline, Project Gotham Racing, Jagged Alliance 2, and Conflict: Desert Storm 2 all sitting around waiting for me to finish. I swear I'll finish em sometime.:p
|
Sure, I sometimes lose interest, for whatever reason. Here's a list of games I own and have finished:
Ghost in the Shell (PSX) GoldenEye (N64) Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX) StarCraft (PC) Final Fantasy IX (PSX) Ico (PS2) MGS: Sons of Liberty (PS2) Advance Wars (GBA) And here's the list of games that I've played, in earnest, but have never finished: Armoured Core (PSX) Final Fantasy V (NES->PSX) Half Life (PC) Final Fantasy X (PS2) Devil May Cry (PS2) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) This doesn't even include the games I own but have never really played (probably an even stranger situation that what you're suggesting)! I assume you're talking about games you lose interest in, which is why I didn't include them in my list. Half Life was a tragedy in that I wanted to finish it but I accidentally erased my saved games and would have had to start over. I recently made a thread about how much I hate having my time wasted (although it wasn't the game's fault, this time...). Banjo-Kazooie just might make the second list... |
I find this happens with me a lot. I just seem to lose interest in video games after I play them too much. For example, I never finished Final Fantasy X, even though I put a lot of time into it.
|
This mainly happens to me with rentals - usually because I advance to a hard point in the game, then don't commit and force my way through to the end before my rental is up. Then I either haven't liked it enough to buy it, or just don't rent it again.
The only purchase which I haven't bothered to finish yet, however, is Final Fantasy X - I just got bored of the gameplay and gave up once I got to the Calming Plains, like where the previous battle with Sin was fought - where you can learn how to ride a chocobo and can do the quest where you collect monsters for that training joint. Anyway, I eventually would like to go back and beat it, but I don't think I'd have any fun unless I were to load up a gameshark or something like that. |
This isn't the case for me, I only play so many video games, so I can usually dedicate the necessary attention to finish each one in time. I mean, I seriously only play about one or two games at a time so it's very rare that I don't finish games.

over the past couple years i almost never finish any game i start playing. i used to be able to, but not anymore.
|
I rarely finish games any more. I've got an issue with getting a game right as "The Next Big Thing" comes out and I move to that. I also lose intrest the second the game feels more like a job than entertainment. Sadly enough most RPG's have these "level choke spots" where you must be X level or you get slaughtered. I'd rather not spend 6-10 hours killing the same old shit so I can beat a boss. As for other games, I'll play until I don't wanna, then cheat through it to see the end.
|
I never finished Deus Ex. The game just got too tedius, and looking back on all the things I missed after reading through a game guide I decided it wasn't worth it to go through all that again, and the rest of the game I had to play was just getting annoying. BTW, I was in Sector 3 of the last level. :p
|
I hardly ever finish them, at least not without long pauses between playing times. I usually play a game for a while, get bored, start a new one, then get bored then start another new one, get bored and then by then its been long enough that I can go back to the first game again with renewed interest. I just re-started playing Final Fantasy X this weekend. We'll see how long this bout lasts
|
this happens to me all the time too. I blame the game though not myself. If the game is good enough it will keep your attention all the way to the end.
|
happens to me all the time, its called ADHD. I get bored.
|
I've found my limit is usually about 20 hours play time for any particular title. After that, I need a break from it for about 2-3 months, and then I'll find time for it again. For shorter games, this works, but for longer games, like some RPGs, there's a bunch sitting around I'm not through.
|
I would say that I tend to not finish games in general. I also don't play too many that have a finish. I play mainly sports games, and you really can't finish them. The only game I finished recently (within 2 years) was Medal Of Honor, Frontline. I have always been that way, I think I just get bored with replaying the same thing over and over to try to figure it out.
|
Wow, I thought I was an anomoly when it came to never finishing games :p
Actually, after thinking about it some more, I usually finish FPS'. I'm a huge fan of RTS' on PC, but more for the multiplay and level designing. I never finish any of the campaigns. |
haha fishing games are great. i had this one hand held and i was fishing with it and you would have to pull it back to hook the fish...well i had had the lunker on earlier in the week and i was trying like heck to catch him and i pulled it back so fast i hit myself in the head with it
edit- now i see its finishing games not fishing. yes i download the save right away..... i cant stay focused to beat any games. onlygame i ever beat was halo.and super mario brothers!!! |
The only game to give me trouble was Home Alone 2 for gameboy. I never beat the first level on the damned game. I had no problems (it was a very simple game) up until an elevator, which I could never get by. I tried everything. I felt like a failure until I beat every Zelda, Mario, Sonic, and FF game ever. Now I think it was Home Alone 2that was messed up.
|
I can't believe you haven't beaten Home Alone 2. I mean, who hasn't beaten Home Alone 2? Gosh.
Actually I haven't even played Home Alone 2. :p I could never beat the first Home Alone on NES, though, even though its fun as hell. |
I have little desire to finish games when they start to get boring, redundant or unreasonably difficult (e.g. jumping platforms over lava while fighting enemies and dodging fireballs for 45 minutes - die once and start over ...)
I didn't finish these games: Myst Midnight Club 2 Deus Ex 2: Invisible War (I only played it because I bought it for $9.95 - then Quake 4 came out) I wouldn't have finished these FPS games if I didn't use the God mode cheat - Doom 3, Serious Sam |
I stopped playing Need For Speed Underground when I got to a certain race that I couldn't beat. It wasn't that the computer was racing faster than me, just that whenever I was on a certain turn (the only difficult turn) there would always be a white van waiting for me. Drove me nuts.
Plus I didn't care too much once I unlocked all the cars/upgrades. |
I have a very short attention span, it seems like I rarely finish the games I start now... I tend to finish more of my handheld games than my console games because I can take the handheld games everywhere with me.
I own every final fantasy game released in the US, but I haven't actually beaten any of them past the SNES ones. I've made it to the boss of 7, 9, and 10, but never actually followed through to beating them. I kind of beat shadow of the colossus, except I kind of gave up on the final boss because he made me mad (tossing me off with full grip gauge, what's up with that?) and one of my friends took over and beat him... so I technically didn't beat it, although I played through the whole game until that part. I don't even really remember the last PC game I finished... I beat Ultimate Spider Man, but that game has about two hours of gameplay and after that is basically just races for medals (which is more fun than the real game in my opinion)... yeah... there are just too many games out there for me to finish them all |
I just don't have the free time anymore to complete games like I used to that coupled with the fact that some games are like 100 hours of play to complete all the levels extras etc.

While I might not play through the game 87 times to get all the superfluous crap, I usually try to at least finish the game. I feel compelled to do so. |
This happens to me all the time. About 90% of the games I've never finished. Prolly because I lost interest over them very quickly. I can remember the only games I've finished playing is Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9 and Need For Speed Underground.
|
I hardly play single player in any PC game. When I bought Quake 4, I completely skipped single player and went straight into multiplayer. Few games I have finshed, but took me years, Devil May Cry and TFT.
|
This used to happen to me all the time so I made a little rule for myself. I only start a maximum of 2 games at once. If I ever want to play a third, I wait until I've finished the other 2 so I won't just let them slide out of interest. I do have many games that I've bought and never played, but I find that way less annoying than simply not beating a game. :)

Oh finishing games... I guess I do sometimes.
FFV FFVII FFX Phantasy Star I,II,III Diablo Multiple times MOHAA Ton of world builder games Pirates !!! Ahhh ;) NFL2k3 - 5 WSB 2K NHL 2k3 NASCAR 02 KOTOR Those are some, but there are probably 80-100 games I haven't and dozen or so good games I haven't gotten more then 5 minutes into... My problem is I see something on sale or just want it and get distracted. 2 most recent I haven't played 5 minutes of is Brothers in Arms and NHL2K5 pretty sad. Oh yea you win a sports game when you get the ultimate cup or trophy whatever. |
It took me somewhere in the region of 8 years to finish super mario 64, so yeh, lol.
It also took me about 2 years to get past the first level in driver, i'm not sure if i finished it or not in the end. For me it depends on the game, lots of them i get stuck on a particular level, get pissed off and forget about the game for a few months, then come back to it later. |
