I will now step away from my computer and do the happy dance. I was addicted to Fallout 2, to the point that I skipped school (high school) to play it on numerous occasions. I hope that the new game will live up to my expectations and be able to be worked into my schedule.

Yeah. I loved Fallout and Morrowind is the best RPG I've played, so wow, if the next Fallout is of the Morrowind quality... wow. happy days indeed. I wonder if anyone has tried making the a Fallout mod for Morrowind.. hmm.. time to do a search. |

"IGN also grabbed ahold of Pete Hines (PR Bethesda) and asked some questions regarding their upcoming Fallout 3 project and here's a quote:
IGNPC: Can we expect something similar to the work done on Morrowind, in terms of that style of game experience? Pete Hines: Again, it's early to say, but it wouldn't be a leap of faith to say that we plan to use technologies in development otherwise. You could make some fairly safe leaps of faith that it would be similar in style. We're not going to go away from what it is that we do best. We're not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur's Gate-style game, because that's not what we do well. " And "Gamespy also contacted Pete Hines (Bethesda Softworks Public Relations head) regarding the latest news that Bethesda is going to develop Fallout 3. Here's a snibblet: GameSpy: Since you now have the rights for the franchise on console, is Fallout 3 also coming to consoles? Pete Hines: Our intent is to develop and publish the game for a number of platforms. GameSpy: So are you working with the previous Interplay "Van Buren" assets and developers, or are you starting from scratch with a new engine and assets? Pete Hines: Too early to talk about that kind of thing. GameSpy: Finally, will Fallout 3 be from a first- or third-person perspective like the Morrowind series, or isometric, like its predecessors? Pete Hines: Too early to say, but I imagine it'll probably lean towards using technology that we're developing. " http://www.nma-fallout.com/ Fallout 3 in name, but I'm worried it will be Morrowind with guns.

I still have this shit eatting grin from my visit to bluesnews. The trick is they keep the turn based play, be it 3D, isometric, or simple 3rd person. If they make the move to first person then it would just be Morrowind with guns, unless they can pull off something amazing. If anything it would be awsome to see a multiplayer/co-op option instead of becoming an MMO. Just think one or 16 of your friends running around the wastelands of old America dishing out your own brand of justice... ah I'm gonna sleep well tonight.

Dont get me wrong, morrowind is big and beautiful. But if you try to combine that with an awesome game like fallout it just wont work. The Elder scrolls games always had a bunch of go fetch missions. And combat was motion based (click and drag down to chop). I'm not sure i'd even play a fallout shooter. Maybe if they made their 3d engine use something like Shadows Over Riva (switches to turn based iso on combat initiation).

I'm not too excited about this. From all the interviews so far, it seems they are going to go in a completely different direction then Fallout 1 and 2.
It might end up being a good game, but not what I was looking for. I was hopeing that they would just be continuing from what was supposedly already done on it before it got stopped, but it seems like they're just going to scrap most if not all of what is done already. Plus if they do scrap what's done so far, it will take even longer to come out.
