Steam & Counter-Strike Woes

I just barely installed CS and Steam and I would very much like to play except that I need some emailed validation code. How do I get Steam to email the need code so that I can play? I have wait a half hour for something that should have taken "a couple of minutes." I have requested a code at least ten times and the damn email still hasn't come. Where can I get one of these codes? THanks

It looks like other people are having to wait a while to get it.

I am a brand new newbie to Counter-Strike. I just want to play a normal/average game of CS. What maps should I be playing? Thanks

i used to play a lot of cs and team fortress a few years ago... last month i decided to start up again.

that crappy steam framework took me forever to get installed right and now it auto-updates everything. my friends have cs 1.5 installed on a lan, but i can't play w/them because steam won't let me run that version. in short, i've had quite a bit of frustration with this way of distributing software. i'm sure there is someway to fix all these problems, but steam requires so much time and mandates so many thing... it just isn't worth it to try to circumvent them.

it took me a half hour to get my validation code.

mahlerisgod: i like dust, dust2, and italy maps.

Dust 1 or 2 and Aztec are good maps to look for in CS.

Also, I would suggest you download the Day Of Defeat mod too, it's really good.

Add on.

If you think BF 1942 has long spawn times you might want to stay far away from CS. In CS you play in rounds and you only have one life a round. So this mean you might wait several minutes before being able to play again. Anyway a round is complete when everyone dies or the objective is complete or the time runs out on the round.

Ouch, get ready to get beat by a lot by people pulling moves that "look" impossible or like cheats. CS has been out for four years and a lot of people have become VERY, VERY good at it. I could almost get in a CS zen mode where if I saw a person and where they were moving; I would know where they were going to be before they would, and I would usually be waiting with an AK ready for a three-round burst.

If you want to get good spectate the best people on the server when you are dead, they will teach you the most about the game. ALWAYS buy full armor before a weapon and for the first month use an mp5. The mp5 is accurate, controlable and cheap. I would also suggest using headphones instead of speakers because you can tell sound directions better with headphones.

I would play on dust, dust2, train, prodigy and office for starters.

and be aware of lamers, CS has a big population of people just running around teamkilling or calling other gamers names.

haha, i [used] to play cs a lot. i was in cal-m at one point, now back in cal-im. don't really care for it anymore. they really did kill it with steam.

anywho, once you get decent, start up a team and join cal-open @ www.caleague.com .

fun stuff.

I actually like steam, the friends feature is cool, the quick updates is cool. A few weeks ago they had an update inwhich they accidentaly screwed up cross hairs, was fixed the next day. Only bad thing about that update is they screwed up quickswith with the AWP, but its not that bad for me since I tend to use riffle more. Been playing forever.. Been in cal before, never got higher than IM cause teams would always die. In CAL-O this season, Should do well cal-o is easy, and we all have played at least IM, and a few M's.

gimme your chan omid, ill idle, maybe we can scrim it up a few times. We need a team thats a challenge to scrim against, that doesn't just completely rape us. Its either we win 20-4 or something, or lose like 18-6 against cal-M teams.
