Anyone know where I can find an older model X-Box?

I'm trying eBay right now but a lot of their products don't list which model it is and I'm wary of blowing $200 on the wrong thing.

i have one standing around right here, but i feel i will not sell it.

p.s i know useless post ;)

How "older" are you after? Initial release or have you got a specific Manufacturing Date in mind?

Dibbler 04-27-2004 05:03 AM

I have a first release system and don't understand why you want one. They came with the sub-standard thompson drives in them and I've already had to replace mine with a newer one.

What's the reason for getting an old xbox?

pixelbend 04-27-2004 05:09 AM

They are $150 new in the stores now.

hijacking the thread for a second:

this 'older' thompson drive, would it be responsible for things like lockups in the middle of games?

Nope. If there's anything worse than a brand-new PS2 or XBox, it's a refurbished PS2 or Xbox. The warranties are usually gone after the refurb. I've had a PS2 and XBox both go bad and had to replace both. I've heard that refurbs are even worse for going bad...I wouldn't risk it. They're so cheap now that it's worth the extra money + warranty.

word. i bought a brand new x-box with replacement around thanksgiving '02, and used the replacement plan the following summer after a couple months of fighting with it to play dvd's or not freeze in the middle. i'm still waiting for my new one to crash.

Maybe, it's almost considered a fact that Thompson drives have problems playing games after a while. I got rid of my old Thompson drive Xbox for the Samsung model and I haven't any trouble out of it. Thankfully it's playing games the Thompson couldn't without a hitch.

Brilliant! I tip my hat to you sir.

Chingal0 04-28-2004 02:10 PM

Ha, good call on the .. yea. I only know of 1 person who has a first issue xbox, and I am afraid that he is not interested in selling it.

Porkchop 04-30-2004 05:59 AM

Just a question call me thick but how do you know what drive you have in? had my xbox around 8 months bought new though?

assilem 04-30-2004 01:30 PM

eBay is the best bet. It will just take some looking.

Stare At The Sun 05-01-2004 12:09 AM

*sigh* if you're buying it to put a mod chip in it, and then you plan on renting all the games, and burning them to the HD, i just want to remind you, that you, and people just like you are ruining the video game business. I just thought you'd like to know.

If thats not the reason, then, uh....ebay.

Same flawed logic as the MPAA and RIAA... The idea that if I pirate a game, I would have bought it if I didn't pirate it is flawed. Each pirated game != a lost sale.

Chingal0 05-01-2004 02:07 PM

You actually buy compter games?

Not really. I just think its bullshit that people who get modded xbox's don't buy a single game, and hence, don't support the industry. If you still buy the games, thats fine, but most people don't. Do what you want, but in the end, pirating will be what ends video games.
