GTA: San Andreas Confirmed!

Linky

In what seems like another surprise twist from Rockstar (yeah, right =D) the next in the GTA franchise has been confirmed. It looks like it's going the path of GTA3 and VC, PS2 only until further notice.

Thoughts?

Dammit!
One of these days Sony's deal is going to work and I'll buy my very own PS2 to play a game.

I was furious when I heard GTA 3 coming out PS2 only, to be rejoiced when it came for the PC. I almost fell for the ploy when they released GTA:VC, and it'll be all I can do to prevent me from buying one this time around. GTA is soooo good!
(/me checks ebay for good ps2 deals)

I reckon they'll release Xbox and PC versions about 8 months behind the PS2 version as they did with previous GTA releases. BUT, the Rockstar/Sony deal reportedly ends this year, which means PC/Xbox versions could be released as early as january '05....

I loved GTA3 but couldn't get into GTA:VC. It was to similar, to buggy, and I got sick of dieing and having to drive all over the place again. Hopefully they have fixed all of these problems by taking 2 years instead of one this time.

If it's even remotely like GTA3 I'll be happy. I can't wait to see what Rockstar has created to take away all my free time...again...

Sure it's a more polished version but what more can you do in it?

I might try and wait it out for the PC version, but knowing my luck I'll end up buying it for the PS2 without realising it.

I am probably the only person on earth whos been trapped within a black hole. I have yet to play even a full hour of either game...mainly because I never got a PS2 and even when it finally came out on XBOX the hype wasnt there anymore. I have watched my friends play it and now the games are on my list of one to complete before the new one comes out.

Good news that it's coming out. Bad news that it says PS2 only, that is a major pain in the arse.
Considering buying a PS2 so I get to play Gran Turismo, but they're stupidly expensive even used and I can't be bothered shelling out that much cash.

I'm not pro-xbox, but one of the things that you can do with xbox is put your own songs on the radio stations. but that's about it as far as I know.

Stupidly expensive? Damn man, do you know how much a gaming PC costs? Consoles are actually way cheaper than they were even in the NES days. Game prices have went down dramatically as well, even counting inflation.

I speak to the PS2 versions, but you could do that with MP3's in the PC versions of the game.

Regardless, no game is going to make me buy either an XBox or a PS2, I waste enough time playing games on my PC (according to my girlfriend)

IMO, GTA:VC is the best console game ever made. I can't wait to get my hands on GTA:SA.

Like VC, it's built on the GTA3 platform. They did this because of limitations with the graphics processing, etc. This means that it will be a lot like GTA3 and VC. If you were tired of GTA3 when VC came out, you might want to skip it. It will likely be pretty much hte same with new missions.

VC was the reason I bought my PS2. I played VC for almost a year without playing 1 other game (a little obsessive, yes especially when you consider I beat the game pretty quickly).

Now that I finally have a computer worthy of gaming, I SHOULD wait till it comes out on PC, but I doubt that will happen...

I wonder how much Sony payed Rockstar to have GTA and Vice City come out so far ahead of the PC and Xbox version.

I doubt Rockstar is hurting for cash right now.

I played GTA3 at a friends house, and finally broke down and bought the game about a week ago ( finally came down to 20 bucks, which is my cheapskate price for games I'm soso for ) I really enjoy playing, but more into RPG. Still though, if you want to kill an hour and alot of pedestrians, this series is awesome.

what kinds of new developments do you think will be in the next game?

since its San Andreas and everything, it would be cool if they had earthquakes and stuff.

...also, cops on motorcycles would be cool.

I'd love doing vigilante missions on a cop bike.

I'd also like to be able to replay missions after I reach 100%

for sure. thats one of my biggest peeves about VC. reaching 100% completion was awesome, but after you achieve it theres nothing left to do but kill things. and killing things is fun, but it does tend to get old after an hour or so.

i don't have a computer worthy of running such a game.

and what is the deal with that new hard drive? i've only seen it advertised with Final Fantasy XI. what kinds of things will it do to enhance the PS2?

It's a hard drive. What else do you need to know? It's not gonna change processing power, or make the graphics better, it's just a storage device. This might be a way for Sony to compete on the storage level with Xbox.
