Anyone tried Gamefly?

After months of running up $20 to $30 late fees renting games at blockbuster, I broke down and got a subscription to Gamefly (an online game rental place, kind of like Netflix). I got a one game per month subscription for $14.95 a month. It works pretty well, you get to keep the games as long as you want with no late fees, so I'm actually saving a ton on money.

The problem is that sending a game back sometimes takes 7 days to get to them, and sometimes it takes another 7 days to get the next game. So you're going almost two weeks between games. It's not always that bad, but it's starting to get annoying.

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a better option?

Or should I break down and pay $21 for a two game subscription?

Or should I grow up and find a hobby that actually betters me in some way?

I got the $22 one for the same reason you signed up, late fees. I don't know if its the area I live in, which is a medium size town in Michigan, but it seems to only take them about 2-3 days to get them back, and another 2-3 to get me my next one. So far I am very impressed with these guys. All CDs have been in good shape, short turn around, and no late fees, which used to kill me. My only complaint, and it is a minor issue, is that you can only have 2 out at a time. Because of the flat rate, I try alot of games that I normally wouldn't waste money on individually. So if I get 2 stinkers together, then I have to wait for the turn around time again to get some desent games.

So I guess to answer your question, while I have the bigger subscription, I still think it has to do more with your proximity to a Gamefly regional warehouse than if you pay more a month or not. And I can't think of a better hobby than this one. Carple Tunnel, muscle attrophy, lack of sleep. What could be better? :)

I bought a 3 month subscription for a friend and he loves it.

I want to but kinda tight on money.

Wanna try it myself, but I don't have any credit cards... so that and Netflix are out of the question.

My brother uses it extensively though, and I've yet to hear any complaints from him.

Heh, it looked really neat, but after reading the first post, I'm glad I'm not signed up :)

One game per month for $15 ? No way.

Actually, it's as many games as you want a month. You can only have one out at a time though. It may seem like alot, but it is actually saving me money.

As a rule, I used to limit myself to one game rental a month from the video store. Once I got real with myself I realized I was spending sometimes a $20 dollar late fee on certain games. Gamefly just made sense.

And by the way, my latest game came alot quicker, so maybe it's getting better. (Champions of Norrath....very sweet)

Whoa...never knew they did stuff like this for video-games. I'm gonna have to look into this now.

I recently signed up. Mainly because I didn't want to spend $60 a game on new 360 games, and no place conveniant to me has a good selection to rent from yet. I signed up on Tuesday afternoon, had emails by Wednesday saying that the first two games in my list had shipped. Today I had them waiting for me in my mailbox when I got home. Seems like an awesome, awesome concept, well executed. Shipping was quick, the packaging is simple, and the selection is broad. :)

I'm currently using Gamelender.com.....I'm satisfied with them.

I might look into this when I add another hard drive to my XBOX.

I used Gamefly for a few months, the games worked great, I always got the game I want.... but living on the east coast it took 2 weeks to get a new game back each time. WAY to long. From what I understand they only have a hub in california. SOOO if you live there it is great.

Currently I use blockbusters movie program. The 3 at a time program (my wife likes movies and I...... do other things with them. With Blockbuster, you get 2 instore rentals each month. Movies OR games. So I use my free rentals and rent games keeping them out for longer then the allowed time and paying the 1.25 restock charge. With each game. Allowing you to have them out for 4 weeks and 4 days.

Works pretty well.

Personally, I'm a big fan of gamefly. I don't use it anymore since I'm too hooked on netflix and WoW to have much time for console gaming, but I found it to work really well. My advice would definitely be to upgrade to the two game system so that you don' thave those delays waiting for games to show up. You just play the second one you have until the new one comes. They're not quite as good as netflix is about getting new stuff shipped in a timely matter, so if you have that extra game always as an overlap, that's a good way to keep you from getting stuck without anything for a while.

A friend and I spilit the subscription and that's how we worked it out. One PS2 game, one GC game alternating every week or so.

Well, I got so tired of waiting for games that I quit Gamefly for a few month's. I recently went back, mainly for their selection, and found that they have a new shipping system.

Basically, now when you mail a game back they ship your next game as soon as your post office scans it in (well, that's what they say). It's easily taken a few days off the shipping process. Seems like a lot of people were having and issue with ship times so it's good to know that they're making an effort.

I play mostly RPG's so I usually get my money's worth, and they have a better selection than my local video game store and blockbuster combined.

Plus I just hate blockbuster. Stupid late fees, I still owe the blockbuster in Mrytle Beach $50 for never returning Titanic (stupic ex-girlfriends). They should pay me $50 for wasting 3 hours of my life, and my ex-girlfriend should pay my $500 for wasting 3 years of my life, but that's another thread.

Back on subject: I like Gamefly.
