EA Sports- How do they Rate Players?

I'm sure alot of you have wondered this over the years---how exactly does EA sports come up with the ratings they give players in their football games (NCAA and Madden)? Do they go out and get 40 times, bench/squat numbers, verticals, etc. from the teams? How much do the previous year's statistics count for a players? What 40 time constitutes above a 90 speed rating?

This has made me curious over the last couple of days, what do you all think?

I think a lot of it is just guessing and comparison. I'm sure there are unofficial 40 times and such for most of the players, and they look at what they can see for most of them as well.

probably from analyzing game tapes, etc.
the hardest to rate is rookies for obvious reasons
also, they sometimes invite players as featured players in the game, also to make face models and stuff

I know that it must be a hard job... in NBA live 2004 they have some players ranked really low that I think should be ranked damn high.. it's a crazy thing..

Strange; a friend and I were just wondering this a few days ago too, him thinking football, while I was pondering the hockey games...

I wonder if there isn't some cataloguing of player attributes that actually exists already, used by whichever leagues, for some reason. I mean, I know there's some type of listing that covers basic things like height, weight, career stats so far, etc. that probably can be accessed by the public (or at least by a gaming company, as the video game does promote the sport, doesn't it?).

I do know that there are absolute sports fanatics out there that eat up every little stat or detail that is available... so maybe there's a player book out there that caters to those kind of dudes?

Maybe I'm talking out of my ass?

Bigt they changed the ratings from Live 2003, so now instead of 50-99 it is 0-99 so if you are a 70 in this one you are an 80 so I think its 5 points for every 10 (ex: 75 in 2004 = 85 in 2003).
