PS2 Mod Chip?

I just bought a DVD writer so of course, it's time to chip the PS2. Havent' done too much research on these chips and figured I'd ask my fellow TFP'ers for some advice. What do you guys recommend? Any tips in chipping? I've heard the process of soldering the chip is very technical with very little room for error. What do you guys think?

Use a slide card, everytime you go to play a "Backed-Up" PS2 game you put the special disc into your system then pop the burnt disc in. This way you don't need to open your machine, void your warranty and potentially kill your PS2. It's only inconvenience is that you must swap discs everytime you play "Backed-Up" games.

I don't bother either way, I work at EB Games so I'm sweet as for getting games.

Good idea Deflok. I'm gonna start researching the slide cards right now. Anyhow, any suggestions on where to find?

Unfortunately I don't live in the US so I wouldn't know the best place to look, sorry.

On second thoughts, I'm glad I don't live in America (but that's got nothing to do with this thread).

I had mine chipped a few weeks ago. Bought about 20 games with it as well.....
I havent been outside in weeks
The type of chip to get depends on what version of PS2 you have.
www.modchip.com would probably be a safe place to start.
Keep in mind that you should probably leave the chipping process to a professional, as it is a fairly delicate and complex procedure.

And make sure the person who does it agrees to buying you a new console should he/she destroy the one he/she works on for you.

I heared that the massiah mod-chip is one of the best at this moment. You don't have to swap bootdisks or stuff like that. The soldering should be done by a pro who did PS2 mods before otherwise there is a great chance of killing your PS2.

Wouldn't this thread fall under the no warez rule?

Mod Chips are not warez. They are not illegal in most places. Where they do allow people to use illegally burned discs in their console, unlike software you ARE buying the PS2 so it is yours to modify as you see fit ( as long as you dont resell it as your product ).
