XIII Demo

Hi everyone...

XIII the cell-shaded shooter demo was released this week. Have any of you played it?
What do you think?

I liked the first level, but the second is very hard... anybody finish it yet?

For those of you that don't have it yet you can find it here:

First level was sweet as, second level is quite tough, especially when you go out the lab door and get nailed by three guys weilding machines guns and shotguns! Great thing is that it uses the Unreal 2 engine but I can still run it at 1280 x 960 with no lag whatsoever!

Demo is very buggy. Only runs on windowed mode for me. Menus also act a little wacky. Sound also distorts during firefights.

Great game tho just hope the full version isnt' as buggy. Just seem more like a test than a demo.

I played it.. beat the two levels... i think it's pretty cool. It's very basic for an FPS, but that's what's charming about it - nothing too complicated.

Given the degree to which the game has been hyped, and the celebrity endorsements, I had been expecting something a tad more original from the gameplay. Sure, the visuals are great and certain little touches (i.e. headshot sequences) add to the initial thrill, but I still felt underwhelmed rather than pleased by the simplicty.

Of course, I'll have to sample the full game when it does come out. If it can build on the promise of the first levlel and portions of the second, I'm sure it will have been worthwhile.

I've had no technical problems with the demo, it runs fine here...

As for hyping... I'm glad I wasn't aware of the hyping... I haven't been in touch with the gaming community recently so that may have been why I missed it.

I like the concept, simple and different... I'm seriously considering ordering the full version.

Anybody else enjoying XIII?

I like the graphics, the comic book stylings never get old for some reason, anybody else been playing this game, any other opinions?

The graphics look sorta neat, but I've read sort of bland opinions everywhere I go. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it straight 6.5's out of 10 I believe. Oh well, I'm sure die-hard FPS fans will like it!

I'm playing it and I like it, but is everyone's quick save not working? It just gets saved to the beginning of the level. Annoying. And I can't get into Ubi's forums, they're down for some reason. Damn.

I've heard the same as Lasereth, I played the demo and quite liked the stylisticness of it but after finishing the demo I uninstalled it as I had no urge to give it another shot.

I don't really like how they did the cel-shading, but I haven't seen much. I've been thinking of checking it out. Do you like it much, gameplay-wise?

Buddy of mine rented it. The game has been played damned near non-stop for three days with him and a coupla other guys playing it in shifts. Killer game, very stylish, neat design, and cool-ass music.

One of the few FPS games that I would actually play/buy.

I coincidently played the Demo for the first time today. I liked it a good deal. Still had alot of bugs that FPS usual have, like guns coming through Doors and what not. It was still fun, and enjoyable.

I probably won't buy it, but if someone gives it to me for Xmas, I'll be a happy camper

Oh and Max Payne 2 is infinitely superior to XIII but that's just my opinion too.

XIII

I was intriguied by XIII from the moment i saw the adds in PCGamer. when i downloaded the demo i was blown away. the graphics and style are incredible, not to mention the steath element imposed by the second demo mission. it's kinda like Metal gear solid toned down and simplified with chairs and bottles and shards of glass. The critics kinda trashed it though. saying that all it is is pretty and stylish. not much to the gameplay. i'm in love though. it's on the top of my christmas list.

I just bought the game (Xbox version), and it has really caught me off guard. The graphics are amazing and fit the game well considering it is based on a French comic book. The gameplay reminds me a lot of Goldeneye 007 (N64), and Perfect Dark (N64).
I've played a few matches on Xbox Live that were really fun, although the maps are very small and the maximum people allowed to play vary on each map, but on the largest maps you can have up to 8. The music of the game is really good, it is a mixture of techno, jazz, and house. Very similar to James Bond movies' type of music. I look forward to playing more of the single player tonight.
