Gamecube Broadband Adaptor

Does anyone own this? is it ever going to be useful? I noticed that the new mariokart game can use it, but I don't really know how. I was sort of under the impression that nintendo wasn't going to embrace broadband the way microsoft has with xbox live. Any info?

The broadband adapter for mario kart is used for lanning, so you can connect another gamecube (or more?) and play multiplayer with them! Online would have been such a better idea, but Nintendo doesnt think that online isnt in the future of gaming! Eitherway, a company called Warp Pipe has developed a tunnling software that tricks mario kart into thinking its playing over a lan, not the internet. So we will have our online gaming soon, and Nintendo will hold their heads in shame.

Yep. Shigeru Miyamoto has made fun of Sony and Microsoft countless times over trying to make online gaming popular. Miyamoto believes that consoles should be made for gaming, and that's it -- hence the absence of a DVD player on the Gamecube. Many people think this will be the downfall of Nintendo's next system. I sure as hell hope that the Gamecube 2 comes equipped with at least a working online gaming system if not a DVD player as well. I can see what Miyamoto is trying to show everyone, but it's simply not going to work against Sony and Microsoft and the same time.

ah.. so they are purposly not keeping up... smart

that really sucks. Nintendo brought so many innovations to the industry a decade ago, and now they are totally against any change.

This is the only game that is online for Gamecube right now. We're talking about an officially licenses online gaming service like PlayOnline or XBox Live! for Gamecube, in which there isn't and there are no plans to be.

Alright, from what I've heard, it was simply too much of a money pit to go online this time around. Next system things will be different. Where's Gang when you need 'em?

The broadband adapter can be used with 1080, Kirby air ride, and Mario kart. with war pipe you can also play them on line

www.warppipe.com

and yes PSO is online as well

Like I said, WarPipe isn't an official licensed Nintendo Online system. It's like the online Halo thing with XBox. 1080, Kirby, and Mario Kart are used over a LAN, but don't have official online support. PSO is still the only game that's online for Gamecube. The WarPipe thing is neat though; playing Halo online was pretty damn cool if you could get the lag to go away. I wonder if it works good with GC?

i like unicorns! they match my trolling very well

Sorry, I'm just sick of all the gamecube fanboys going to every single ps2 and xbox thread and hating...

TheFirstDuffMan 12-06-2003 07:48 PM

PSO, Mario Kart, and Kirby's Air Ride(Japan-only for now) use it. Some other people use it for *ahem* other purposes.

I don't see online gaming taking off on the gamecube.

I don't see how they will make it. If you take a look, the cost of a gamecube is as much a gameboy sp.

meanwhile the ps2 is still $299 and the xbox is about the same price.

The XBox and PS2 are both $199 now, with some places having special offers that give one of the consoles for $179.99 with two free games.
