How do you keep your PS2?

I read a thread here http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....threadid=37735
and it seems that everyone has it lying flat.
I have mine vertical. How about you?

Lasereth 12-01-2003 01:16 PM

Horizontal, but if I need it in a tight space I turn it vertical.

I have mine horizontal. I need it to be because in the place I have it in, it couldn't go vertical, not enough room, so I have to have it lying flat.

Loup 12-01-2003 02:47 PM

I had it vertical when I was living at home - but since moving, it is now laying horizontally. (For each location, that was the best way of placing it.)

Distraction 12-01-2003 03:22 PM

Horizontal with digital cable box on top and then gamecube on top of that.

My own little tower of entertainment.

Apokx 12-01-2003 05:33 PM

Horizontal, after being told that Vertical was bad on the system itself.(Might be hype, but I'm paranoid so I never let it do that)

what he said...

LaZy 12-01-2003 06:27 PM

I have mine vertical. Is that bad for it?

Rudel73 12-01-2003 06:46 PM

Horizontal, too much of a pain to balance the discs in it when changing them and its just overall easier to use horizontal :)

Rabid Bunny 12-01-2003 07:14 PM

Vertical, because I'm cramped for floor space.

Mr.Deflok 12-01-2003 08:30 PM

Vertical 'cause it looks better but apparently it's bad for your lense.

omega2K4 12-02-2003 12:39 AM

I keep my PS2 pretty dusty, it hasn't been getting attention lately, I'm thinking about trading it in. No games that appeal to me have came out recently or are coming out for it. Not that much longer until the PS3/Xbox2/etc.

Laladien 12-02-2003 12:49 AM

What Omega said...

Other than Jak II and Ratchet and Clank 2, I'm not playing the damn thing...

Horizontal, when it is vertical my digital output doesn't work. I guess that is what I get for a first gen PS2.

TinniT 12-02-2003 06:50 AM

my brother kept his horizontal when he first purchased it. After the first two years, it refused to play DVDs. Turning it vertically, it nowhas faster load times, and plays DVDs again. Go figure :-/

He also has one of the first gen PS2s, and spent a coldnight in front of best buy waiting to purchase it upon its release.

BigBlueWrecking 12-02-2003 06:59 AM

I guess I have a first gen, but I keep it horizontal and have had no problems. My problem is my drunk ass roommate that does not put the games back and lets them get scratched up (OK I have been guilty of this as well). I very rarely play a DVD on it, but did last night and it worked fine. I have had mine for around two years I guess. I hope it does not start messing up. I love all o the sports games! Just bought NCAA March Madness 04. I like it!

zero2 12-02-2003 02:59 PM

horizontal, have heard it's not good to have it vertical.

Can anyone verify this?

TinniT 12-02-2003 06:42 PM

the thing about vertical is bull shit..
the only way *only* Way it can be bad for the unit, whether horizontal or vertical (but worse vertical) is if the disc is unbalanced... IE, an idiotic mom & pop video game rental place puts a label on one side, and it makes it unbalanced.

That thing about hte last? Crock of shit.. anyoen who claims that doesn't understand any of the principles in its mechanical engineering, or in any disc-ROM architecture.

sartan 12-26-2003 08:32 AM

I have mine horizontal.

zVp 12-26-2003 08:30 PM

horizontal. i dunno why but i prefer it like that. maybe because i can easily put some games on top of it and just pile it up =P

It may cause things to shift around a bit and fuck up loads and stuff in general and if a cat or dog walks by and knocks it down it goes crack. It's not as hard as an xbox. *runs into the ghetto with xbox armor*

drag0nmanes 12-29-2003 01:31 AM

Vetical. It's a first gen model, and I've yet to have any real problems with it, well except it not liking one of the re-releases. Otherwise it works fine as it s.

GakFace 12-29-2003 02:24 AM

hmm no choice for "At The Store".. hehe

edmos1 12-30-2003 05:49 PM

horizontal, and no problems, however I did have a game go bad, I played it a couple times and it worked, now it does not, plays others and DVD's fine though

archer2371 12-30-2003 07:27 PM

Horizontal, not enough shelf room to put it vertical, and plus I hear it's just too much of a hassle if I put it vert.

NoseyJoe 01-28-2004 09:06 PM

horizontal, too much of a pain to put in games when its vert.

Enka 02-01-2004 12:05 AM

horizontal but vertical makes your ps2 last longer (gravity and other random things contribute to ps2 failure...blah!)
. id do it but i dont have the room :|

propaganda 02-01-2004 12:11 AM

vertical because of so many old consoles take up all the space on my shelf.

End User 02-01-2004 06:29 PM

I have a friend who works in the Sony Repair Centre and the most common mishap is when operating the PS2 vertically and playing an unbalanced disc which then vibrates off it's spindle and goes crashing into other bits of the ps2 componentry.
He's seen some cases where the disc, because it's spinning so fast, has come off the spindle, and then shattered into a million little pieces! His advice is to always use it horizontally.

Redjake 02-01-2004 06:43 PM

My friend's PS2 has a nice problem: You have to put the disc in while it's vertical, let it boot into the PS2 "OS" I reckon it's called, then flip it horizontal as the game boots. I saw it happen many times, and yes it worked.
