smiling_bob 11-26-2003 09:50 PM

11 minutes! I'm not even done untangling my controller and blowing the dust out of the cartridge that fast!

MSD 11-26-2003 10:59 PM

There's something fishy about this. I've played that game thousands of times, and I've never seen graphical sprites move that fast. The timer and music are fine, but Mario and the bad guys are sped up. .It could just be that it's the Japanese version, but I've run through the first level as fast as possible, and it just isn't possible for Mario to move that fast.

lordjeebus 11-26-2003 11:03 PM

Holy crap! I used to be able to do it in under 20 min. but this is unbelievable...

RedCometChar 11-26-2003 11:05 PM

As much as I hate to use the word l337, it's the only thing that can possibly describe this guy.

GakFace 11-27-2003 03:22 AM

First off I agree with MSD, something seems fishy.. that a bit sped up. Also through the wall cheat? Come'on! heh.

1337 just might fit because to be called 1337 in my book is not a good thing and this person obviously spent WAY to much time in their life being able to run it like that.

Through the wall is not a cheat. Well known fact.

Terresqueワ 11-27-2003 09:17 AM

It does look a little fishy, the speed. But still, HO-LY-JEE-BUS!!!

kel 11-27-2003 09:41 AM

I disagree with the speed theories. It felt about the same when I pulled out the nintendo a few hours ago ;-)

It just feels fast because he is passing so many objects and interacting with them so quickly... your mind is catching up trying to register what's happening making it feel faster then it is.

Prophecy 11-27-2003 10:02 AM

Either way that guy had to play Mario 3 a lot to remember when enemies pop up like that. I've never seen someone do the level with the sun so effortlessly.

That sounds about right, I'm guessing this guy has played SMB so much that he knows the exact timing for absolutely everything on a SMB map and pretty much plays it in his sleep.

mikepeca18 11-27-2003 11:00 AM

He may not know where all the enemies are in every level, just the ones he went through

Esoteric 11-27-2003 05:52 PM

Wow, that's pretty sick.

rock_bottom 11-27-2003 09:41 PM

Some mad save-state use there... but man, when he was getting 1-ups without being racoon mario, that was insane.
If you liked this, I think the standard of this genre of videos is "Quake Done Quickly". If you'd played through that whole game and probably spent weeks on it, it was so awesome to see some guys jump through the whole thing in 15 minutes.

quest1mark 11-27-2003 10:44 PM

lets see him do that on mario 1....bitch.

just playing. that was impressive.

meff 11-28-2003 12:34 AM

Yeah, it's legit.. I've seen those time sets alot and this is one of the good ones. BTW it is the jap version of Mario 3 so some stuff may be different..

Yeah, doing it all in one play is a bit much. Still a hell of an achievement.

GakFace 11-30-2003 01:53 AM

Going through a wall is going through a wall. I was merely pointing out that he was using a process not intended for the game. By that, that could be considered an easter egg, or quite possibly even a cheat. Regardless I was just pointing out that he was cheap by not using the original route. This guy plays it too much no matter how you look at it though.

Jack Ruby 11-30-2003 11:15 AM

Woah. And I thought I was good. It's almost like the designers intentionally placed all the monsters and timed the cannons so someone would be able to beat a level in 10 seconds... Very cool, and very strange.

Argh, I can't get it either. I wanted to see this after downloading the Mega Man 2 one. Does anyone know of a mirror?

No problem. Between this and the Megaman 2 video, I've become pretty interested in this. Has anyone found any other speed gaming? I found one for Metroid Prime, but that doesn't interest me as much as the older Nintendo games.

For those of you who want to see it though...

I've never played it, though... I assume that's pretty fast?

a_divine_martyr 12-01-2003 05:48 PM

Well, if he used an Emulator it's possible he slowed down the frame rate to do about 1/4 of what it should be?

I doubt anyone would do that simply for some internet game.

Lasereth 12-03-2003 07:54 AM

Already a thread on this maybe even on the main page. If not, it's the second page down. Can't complain, the search function isn't working.

Anyway, about the video: the guy that made it used an emulator. He saved the levels he did perfect, and if he fucked up, he simply restarted that level. Then at the end he pieced all of the levels together using a video editing software.

He didn't beat it in 11 minutes, he just showed that it's possible if you're Jesus. I guess he still gets credit for beating the individual levels like that; some of it is amazing.

Yes, I replied earlier in this thread that the guy used an emulator. In other words, he played it on his computer, saved after each level, and then restarted if he died. At the end, he pieced it together using video editing software. It's still cool that he was so good at the levels, but he did not beat it in 11 minutes, and he did not do it all at once.

MSD 12-17-2003 10:14 PM

I told you that Mario 3 video was fake ...

http://www.sohh.com/forums/showthread.php?t=410941
http://www.excite.co.jp/world/url/bo...co=excitejapan

Basically, he used an emulator and took 2 years to play the game frame-by-frame, rewinding if he screwed up.

Here's the text of his explanation, translated directly into barely-sensical English

Quote:

Fundamental description. From the question which often exists first of all

- ZURU is carried out.
-> ZURU is carried out. It is dropping and moving by the emulator till 1/30 second.
Save and loading are repeated and recorded during movie record.
When a mistake is saved and made before a dangerous place, it is touch called loading.
If this movie is seen and "game also becomes nice, it comes to be able to do so far."
I think I am sorry very much so that the dream of the pure person who considered may be ruined.
It should have written beforehand.

- 8W do not obtain and don't review in a hand in a zone?
The frame out of which -> hand does not come is chosen and avoided.

- Go into the room of a whistle not turning to the reverse side by the white block of 1-3.
It can turn to the reverse side also under -> lever slanting. Since Mario also moves the operation under lever slanting
After putting in for a while just under, B dash of is done under slanting.
If it often sees, it is turning to the reverse side firmly at the right end of the white block.

- A time display becomes quick or is slow.
It is the processing omission which occurs in the case of scrolling of -> screen. It is intense especially during P dash.

- It is just before the "?" block of a tank 1, and the spanner is hit.
I hear that -> emulator movie is recording only operation, and it thinks that it can understand.
It has not hit, although it is suspicious. A miracle did not hit.

- The gun is hit near [ outside / screen / a tank 2 ].
It is the same as the explanation on ->. The favor of the system of a game did not hit.
It seems that Mario's judgment disappears out of a screen although it does not understand well.

- Does kuppa die from a fire?
-> BUMBUN can be toppled with the from fire 5, and kuppa can be toppled by from 35.

- Is the mushroom taken by the clear panel of 8-1?
The star is avoided in order to avoid 5UP as -> guess.

- With one with earlier carrying out the wall omission of the last of eight forts
Since it was earlier not to carry out -> wall omission, it chose here.

I want to try saying and the latest free software (microsoft Windows Media Encorder, TMPEGenc, etc.).

Such animations have done and announced to the sake officially.

I am very sorry to people considered to be a play by people's hand seriously.

Moreover, can the picture which investigated the time attack intently on us be made if it is an emulator?

There was also a wish by wanting to see Mario who moves an ideal.

Yeah, he skipped everything possible. Hell, he even used certain tricks in the game to get the Plasma Beam super early. It was awesome. Oops, can't get over that wall! Well, he'd just do the 3-morph ball bomb trick in perfect order to get over it. If he didn't want to fight enemies, he'd literally walk on the walls to go past them. It was freakin crazy. It took more like 3 hours, but the game doesn't count a lot of the sequences in the game as actual gameplay time. The final timer did say 1 hour and 30 some minutes. This guy had to have played each part over and over after the save points to get them absolutely perfect. It doesn't change the fact that he knew the game inside and out and was one damn good player. I felt nauseous after watching it because he went so fast. :)

First off, Metroid Prime isn't a first-person shooter, so the controls are WAY different. Most FPS on consoles use two analog sticks to move, strafe, look around, etc. Metroid Prime uses ONE analog stick to move and look around. You press and hold a shoulder button in order to target and strafe.

It sounds confusing, but once you play a while, it's second nature. The combat isn't as smooth as with a FPS, but everything else is simply better. Most people put down the controller after a few minutes because they can't get used to the controls. Trust me, it gets better, and when you finally get the hang of strafe-targeting, you feel like a complete badass. Metroid Prime has the PERFECT controls for a first-person adventure game, not a FPS. Like Shigeru Miyamoto said: Prime isn't a first--person shooter. If it was, they'd leave the jumping out of it. :)

And yes, this game is worth buying a Gamecube for. It's better than you can ever imagine. I'd pay $300 for a GC if it meant being able to play this game. I can't believe it's on sale for $20 at some places now...it's like seeing Halo or Vice City on sale for $20. You want to shake the retailer and say, "Dammit, this game should be $50 forever! It's worth it!"

Metroid Prime does have a third-person mode, but it's only in the Morph Ball mode, which is used for some combat but mostly puzzles.

Do yourself a favor and buy this game and a Gamecube right now And pick up Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem while you're at it. :)

Independently of how they were created, they still bring back some great memories.
Thanks for posting!

that video is fucking sickening. I've played through metroid prime, and that guy is just fuckin sick. Everything that he does is just wrong somehow.

ive seen the clip before, that is just nuts. A life wasted on mario bros 3. . .

That Super Mario Brothers 3 was much different then what I remember during the last levels. Not that I remember much.

Redjake 02-08-2004 10:35 AM

that metroid prime video is indeed sickening.

wait, are you saying it's sickening from the standpoint of "god why is he doing everything backwards and HOW THE FUCK DID HE BEAT THAT BOSS SO FAST and wtf man, it took me a full 30 minutes to beat that puzzle, he just skipped it" or is it sickening from the standpoint of "blecht that's a lot of motion?"
